Is Alchemy Of Souls worth watching?
TvN is unrivaled when it comes to supernatural and fantasy drama. TvN has produced many supernatural kinds of shows such as Guardian: The Lonely and Great God (a.k.a- Goblin), Tale of Nine-Tailed, Hotel Del Luna, Master’s Sun, and Who are You? and many more.
The new TvN/Netflix drama Alchemy of Souls, starring Lee Jae Wook and Jung So Min in pivotal roles. Alchemy Of Souls is receiving both praise and criticism for its similarity to a Wushia/Xianxia Chinese drama. However, K-drama is an original, and no country should have a monopoly or copyright in genres, right?
The second season of Alchemy of Souls has been renewed, with returning cast members Lee Jae Wook, Hwang Min Jung, and Goo Yoon Jung. According to the South China Morning Post, the hit historical drama, which is halfway through its 20-episode run, has been renewed by TvN for a 10-episode second season.
According to the South China Morning Post, the show’s creators decided to split the narrative of Alchemy of Souls into two parts because they could not fit the entire story into a single season. The first season of the show will end on 21st August. It is currently unknown when the second season will premiere.
Synopsis of “Alchemy of Souls”
Cast: Lee Jae Wook, Jung So Min, Hwang Min Hyun, Go Yoon Jung, Arin, Yoo In Soo, and Shin Seung Ho.
Jang Uk, of the Nobel family, and Naksu, the shadow assassin, are the main characters. The K-drama takes place in a fictional or mythical region, kingdom, or era in which monarchy is still prevalent. There are mages and spells, which distinguishes it from a typical era setting. Jang Uk’s father Jang Gang is a well-known Mage.
According to the understanding of Alchemy of Souls episode 1, there are strange zombie-like creatures or the return of the dead souls. Jang Gang was working on a new spell (Alchemy of Souls). Jang Gang locked Jang Uk’s gate after birth, preventing him from casting spells or becoming a wizard. Jang Gang has been missing for quite some time, leaving Jang Uk alone.
Jang Uk was kicked out by 12 teachers who could not teach or train him because his gate was closed. Jang Uk is convinced that he requires a new teacher who can unlock his gate and teach him. Because Jang Gang could not open his gate, no one in Songrim dared to open Jang Uk’s gate, leaving him weak and a spectacle.
Naksu, the feared Shadow assassin, was attacking Park Jin’s Songrim. Naksu was injured in a bloody battle with Park Jin and had to switch souls. Naksu wound up with Mu Deok’s body, a blind girl who was about to be sold.
Jang Uk and Mu Deok met by chance as fates intertwined. Jang Uk was convinced that Mu Deok was the assassin Naksu. Naksu became weak after switching souls. She had lost her body and sword and was no longer able to cast spells. Jang Uk noticed Mu Deok’s eye change as a result of the soul spell and brought her home. Mu Deok and Jang Uk’s dynamic is worth watching because they have a cat and mouse relationship
Naksu’s body had been burned, and her sword had vanished. Jin Mu had her sword, and I’m guessing he’s also from Naksu’s side, and he wants her dead for good. Jang Uk obtained Naksu’s sword and later persuaded Mu Deok to return with him. Jang Uk desired Mu Deok to be his teacher, but Naksu refused.
His gates are shut, and no one dares to open them. Even Naksu was exhausted. She could not unsheathe her sword even after she had it. Although she did so temporarily, it was not her fault. Mu Deok is cunning, and she poisoned Jang Uk to open his gates. Excellent work, Naksu.
For all these things, it is for sure that this drama is nothing like Chinese Wuxia or Xianxia Chinese drama. So far, it’s much more believable and enjoyable. The characters and cast are endearing. It’s difficult to predict the motivations of the characters and what everyone is planning.
Naksu aka Mu Deok. is the most unpredictable character. The chemistry between Lee Jae Wook’s Jang Uk and Jung So Min’s Mu Deok is enjoyable to watch. Alchemy of Souls K-drama is totally worth watching.
According to Soompi, the show had its highest viewership ratings to date for its latest last episode on July 24, which took first place in its time slot across all cable channels with an average nationwide range of 7.1% – a new high for the series.
