Amazon Web Services (AWS) is a cloud computing service where developers, whether of a well-established company or a new start-up, can attain solutions based on their requirements. Despite it being a renowned and widely accepted cloud solution provider, AWS has come under fire because of its recent “free trial period” backfiring on developers. With this, many other established companies are getting the spotlight for the freedom of trial.
What Is AWS Cloud Computing?
Cloud Computing refers to the aspect where one stores the data offsite, or off one’s personal premises. The data is stored on remote servers that are connected to the internet instead of a local server or personal hard drive. It is provided by companies to enhance the growth of other establishments through the digitalisation of their data. Since cloud computing provides the flexibility of access to multiple people within a single organization at the same time, it is considered easier to access. Moreover, cloud computing involves remote access to several services, so the storage of data, programs, and resources becomes easier.
With cloud computation come many benefits, such as:
- Instant availability
- Flexible scalability to adhere to the demands of business.
- Budget-friendly because there is less space for hardware storage and more cloud access.
- Multiple servers create reliability if one server becomes unavailable.
- Safe from physical tampering and loss of data.
The 3 types of cloud computing services are:
- Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS): developers, business owners, and others alike, pay rent to hold a virtual computer.
- Platform as a Service (PaaS): This service provides developers with a platform on which to build their programs without having to worry about infrastructure, as their primary focus is on providing a space for the development of applications and services..
- Software as a Service (SaaS):Â delivers services and applications through the internet by accessing the software without installing and maintaining it.

AWS is a platform-based service which eases the program functionality of a developer. It targets the incoming data to provide the environment one needs to form a business and promote it without worrying about the cost of infrastructure, while still adhering to the financials of managing software through some other sources.
Allowing a platform to be used for free during the initial stage of start-up, where developers and business owners usually lack finances, stands as a boon. But what really starts a question is how long it is permissible and to what extent. With the market in jeopardy every other day, the economic balance sheet comes under fire, affecting the cost price of available necessities for developers, which in turn creates barriers to their growth. With ‘free trial period’ as an option, it lessens the impact of such market turmoil, providing a benefit of time which helps in marketing the business, rather than worrying about the infrastructure or software costs.
But revocation of a service based on the fact that the developers need to pay for an extension, despite being in a free trial zone, has caused an unpredicted issue for AWS. Even though AWS has new investments from companies like Oracle, Vonage, Harvard, and Accenture, the prevailing issue of the free trial period can cause a massive out-flux of clients from the platform.
Amazon has multiple services that are readily available to people, be it for personal growth or professional uplift. And thus, there are other alternatives available to people. With consistent growth in the start-up industry, more and more entrepreneurs are looking for cloud solutions, readily made available by companies like Microsoft and Azure, which are in equal competition with AWS.
Moreover, cloud computing is also a host-based platform, which implies that if a start-up cannot host its own data due to finance, time, or infrastructure  unavailability, they can approach others with cloud computing solutions to augment their business. In India itself, there are many international cloud computing companies like Kamatera, Linode, Hostinger, Cloudways, and Digital Ocean apart from AWS.
Since start-ups do not have the high finances required to avail the services required for their growth, several Indian companies like Simpform, CISIN, Third-Eye Data, Eleviant Tech, XenonStack, AJM Softwares,Big Step Technologies Pvt. Ltd, Stepping Cloud, and many others will be able to provide the necessary low-cost platform.
Even if AWS reverses its decision on the limited duration of free trial and other regulations related to it, there is no shortage of solution providers in this fast-paced world.
