Mandeep Kaur was a thirty-year-old woman who committed suicide on August 3. She was from Bijnor, Uttar Pradesh, and had become an NRI once she shifted to New York with her husband.
Before finally giving up, she posted a video on social media where she explained why she was giving up.
She faced years of domestic abuse from her husband, Ranjodhbeer Singh Sandhu. He would come back home drunk and beat her mercilessly. She would have scars and red marks all over her body.
She mentioned that once he kidnapped her for five days in his truck and beat her throughout.
Mandeep’s sister said that they would harass her a lot just because she gave birth to two daughters. Ranjodhbeer would call her parents and demand a son. He also demanded 50 lakh rupees from Mandeep’s family, to raise the daughters.
Her family filed a case against the Singhs. However, when they begged Mandeep to help them and got into her head, she asked her family to take down the case.
In her video, Mandeep also accused her husband of infidelity. When in India, he would always have affairs with different girls but in the hope that he would get better, she went off to New York with him. But even there he would continue having affairs and continue the domestic violence.
Mandeep’s family is worried about her two daughters, who are so young. They want custody of the little girls so that they can protect them from the ruthless family of Ranjodhbeer.
At the end of her video, Mandeep said that she tried her best to bring her family together, despite being abused for eight years. She also cleared that her in-laws and husband were the reason why she had to leave behind her daughters, and the world.
We all demand justice for Mandeep Kaur.
