Gardner ranks second with 12 wickets in the list of the most Test match wickets a female cricketer has taken. Shazia Khan of Pakistan, who had 13 wickets in a Test match versus West Indies women, is ahead of her.

Australia has been the team to beat in the one-off Test. Ellyse Perry and Sutherland helped Australia amass 473 runs in the opening innings. In response, double centurion Beaumont, who became the eighth woman in history to hit a double tonne, led England brilliantly. However, Tahlia McGrath and Gardner enabled Australia to gain a slim lead of 10 runs.
