All people who are still residing in the eastern Donetsk region that is under Ukrainian authority have been ordered to leave, according to Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky.
In a late-night statement from Kyiv, Mr. Zelensky claimed that the combat there was fierce.
The more people who leave the Donetsk region at once, the less time the Russian army will have to massacre civilians.
Heavy fighting has taken place in the area as Russian forces, who already own a significant portion of it, approach slowly.
Residents have already been told to leave by the Ukrainian authorities
The president said, “We will use every opportunity to save as many lives as we can and to reduce Russian terror as much as we can.”
The Ukrainian government has already ordered residents to vacate the region. According to Ukrainian estimates, between 200,000 and 220,000 residents continue to reside in Donetsk’s vacant territory.
The authorities issued an evacuation alert, warning that the impending winter would make matters worse. Especially for kids.
Both sides exchanged blame for the troops’ inexplicable deaths
The Ministry of Reintegration of Temporarily Occupied Territories in Kyiv declared that they needed to be evacuated. Because leaving them in the winter without lighting, heating, or a way to stay warm would put them in grave danger.
The President’s involvement comes in between. Russia has asked UN and Red Cross investigators to look into the deaths of 50 Ukrainian POWs in another area of the Donetsk region. It is held by rebels with Russian support.
Both sides have traded responsibility for the troops’ mysterious deaths during an assault on a jail in Olenivka.
Russian defense authorities said Moscow would welcome an “objective probe” into the incident.
Russia published a list of the 50 POWs killed in the strike
The Red Cross said on Friday that it was requesting entry to the Russian-run jail and to any remaining inmates. But no permission was given right away.
According to Daniel Bunnskog, its deputy head of mission in Ukraine, giving access to POWs is required under the Geneva Conventions.
The self-declared Donetsk People’s Republic, which has Russian support, is in charge of the Olenivka prison camp (DNR).
What is unknown is what occurred there on Friday. Unconfirmed Russian video footage from the scene depicts a jumble of demolished bunk beds and severely burned victims.
Russia released a list of the 50 POWs it said were killed in the strike on Saturday. Moscow claims that Ukraine used a HIMARS artillery system to carry out the strike.
Kyiv has claimed that Russia fired on the plant to conceal evidence of war crimes. But Kiev has denied carrying out the strike.
Ukrainian authorities referred to Russia as a “terrorist state
Russian officials were branded a “terrorist state” by Ukrainian authorities. After the UK embassy in Moscow tweeted that Ukrainian Azov battalion members deserved to die a “humiliating death” by hanging.
The tweet from the Russian embassy was a violation of Twitter’s “rules regarding hateful behavior.” But the firm stated that it could be in the public interest to keep it available.
In the tweet posted on Friday evening, Azov said, “Since militants aren’t actual troops, they should be hanged rather than put to death by firing squad.” They should be executed in humiliation.”
The tweet includes a video clip of a couple in a destroyed structure claiming that Azov forces shelled their house. The person in the video repeats what is said in the embassy’s death request.
After heroically defending Azovstal, a massive steelworks in the southeast port of Mariupol that was finally taken over by Russia, for weeks, Azov soldiers were forced to lay down their arms in May.
When it was founded in 2014. The Azov Regiment was a nationalist organization with ties to the far-right. Later, it was absorbed into the National Guard of Ukraine.
As part of its propaganda effort to support its invasion of Ukraine on February 24, 2022, Russia has long accused the regiment of being neo-Nazis and war criminals.
