South Korea’s top singer/songwriter and indie icon 10cm released his new single ‘5.3 (Gradation)’ on 3rd July 2022.
South Korea’s famous singer/songwriter 10cm is back with an indie-folk track ‘Gradation’ for the first time in eight months since his 2021 release of ‘The 3rd EP.’ The vibrant and pleasant summer melody stands out in 10cm’s new song ‘Gradation.’ The words are appealingly expressed with the term “Gradation,” like traces of ink that have spread to the boring white daily existence, and the feelings of a person that the other party has permanently fallen into.
Gradation is a visual art method that involves gradually moving from one color hue to another, or from one shade to another, or from one texture to another. 10CM brilliantly captures this mood in his new song Gradation, which uses a charming metaphor of ink flowing through an upbeat indie folk melody.
‘Gradation’ is one of his brighter, more upbeat songs compared to his other releases. It’s a love ballad that compares the gradual deepening of one’s feelings for someone, the overwhelming feeling and emotion. 10cm recalls feeling completely overwhelmed while falling in love with someone. The words of the song contain that amazing emotion – when these sentiments are swiftly deepening and becoming deeper/stronger like a gradation without you even noticing them.
There are two music videos for this song. One is a monologue of Kwon Jeong-yeol wandering around with a guitar in his hand. The second one is a drama version of the song starring Chae Jong Hyeop.
About 10cm
10cm was a South Korean duo project with Kwon Jeong-yeol and Yoon Cheol-jong. It is one of Korea’s most successful indie bands. The name came from the height difference between the two. They had been a duet for a long time, however one of the members left in 2017. Cheol-jong left the band leaving only Jeong-yeol.
Following the disbandment, Jeong-yeol released his first solo album under 10cm. Currently, he is under the Magic Strawberry Sound agency. Kwon Jeong-yeol is well-known for his genuine lyrics and acoustic sound across the music industry.
