2022 has been a jackpot for India’s Game in the world stadium. Indian athletes have made many historic achievements and accomplishments.
World Championships And Diamond League
The First name that came to mind is Neeraj Chopra, a Javelin thrower. Twenty-five years athletes won the gold medal at the Olympics in Tokyo in 2020, and he never fell back after that! He made his mark through the World Championships and Diamond League.
He set an international record at Paavo Nurmi Games and won a silver medal. In 2022, World Athletic Championships in Oregon, he wrote another history and won the silver medal. After Anju Bobby’s bronze medal in the long jump, Neeraj Chopra maintained a legacy on the world stage. After 2003, Neeraj Chopra broke the record in World Athletics Championships.
This star set another record in the Diamond League in Zurich. He is India’s first athlete to win the Diamond League title. He repeatedly broke his records, which were national records, and most recently recond an 89.94 metres throw in Stockholm Diamond League Competition.
Commonwealth Games
In 2022, the authority of the Commonwealth Games removed shooting from its list. Shooting was the sport to date India won bags of medals. But this year, breaking all the records, India marked its name in the Commonwealth in the absence of shooting.
In the Commonwealth Games, India won 61 medals in total. Among those, 22 were golds,16 were silvers, and 23 were bronze. The list includes the sports of Weightlifting, wrestling, boxing, badminton, tennis, Lawn Bowls, and triple jump.
This year Women’s team won the gold medal in Lawn Bowls, whereas the Men’s team bagged the silver. Lawn Bowls is a sport that previously received less attention in the Indian athlete’s field, but this year both teams came back home with medals.
Eldhose Paul won India’s first triple jump gold at Commonwealth Games in 2022. Defeating his fellow competitor Abdulla Aboobacker, he won the gold. In track and field athletes, Murali Sreeshankar also won his first silver in Men’s long jump in Commonwealth 2022.
Priyanka Goswami won the 34th Women’s 20k racewalk, while Sandeep Kumar made his name in the list of 2022 by winning the 40th in men’s 20km racewalk. But the highlight of the competition was Avinash Sable. He won the Silver medal in Men’s 300 metres steeplechase with a new national record. In Birmingham, India’s women’s cricket team and the Indian hockey team bagged medals.
Maiden Thomas Cup
In 2022, The Maiden Thomas Cup was played in Bangkok, Thailand. The Indian Men’s Badminton squad made another history in the Maiden cup. Never before has India won this match, but 2022 was the year for Lakshya Sen, the captain of the Men’s badminton team and his associates. With identical 3-2 scores, HS pronnoy bagged the medal for his team.
Boxing World Champion
The name Nikhat Zareen emerged when it had a link with boxing. In the commonwealth, Nikhat bagged a gold medal. However, she bagged the title of World Champion layer. She is the 5th Indian woman to win the title of Women’s World Boxing Championships after the legendary four; Mary Kom, Laishram Sarita Devi, Jenny RL and Lekha KC. Defeating the opponent, Jutamas Jitpong, from Thailand, in Tokyo Olympics, Nilhant made history by winning gold.
Women’s FIH Nations Cup
Indian Women’s Hockey team bagged the Women’s FIH NAtions cup in the FIH pro league 2021-22 season. With a goal in mind, Savita Punia and her teammates of eight athletes entered the event in December and won all three group matches. In the semifinal, the team won the cup against Ireland with a 1-0 score.
