High migration of students to abroad a cause of concern
While responding to a question by JDU M.P Ranjan Singh, the ministry of education shared that more than 30 lakh students have went abroad, with 7.5 lakh students disclosed there purpose of visit as study or education in 2022.
The number has went up drastically from 2017 when around 4.54 lakh students applied for visas showing the purpose of the visa as study or education.
The data exposes the declining faith of students in Indian universities and the desire of students to get top notch education from top universities of the world which help them get better job offers .
The amount of money being currently invested by students of India for studying outside is much more than required at Indian varsities.
The JDU M.p Ranjan Singh had also asked the government if there was any intention of the government to setup an international University of high standards in the country, to which the minister replied positively that though India doesn’t have any plans to establish an International University of the highest quality in order to save funds but UGC has drafted enabling Regulations to facilitate the establishment of campuses of Foreign Higher Educational Institutions in India.
Is the New Education policy answer to such problems
In the New education policy Govt allows world’s top 100 universities entry into India.
The policy says that such universities will be facilitated to open in India with help of a new law.
According to the new educational policy, there would be a legislative framework facilitating such entry (of foreign universities) will be put in place, and such universities will be given special dispensation regarding regulatory, governance, and content norms on par with other autonomous institutions of India,”
The policy also asks the foreign universities to give an undertaking that the quality of education will be similar to the kind of education that is provided in there home countries.
Top educational hotspot countries like Australia, Italy, Uk, USA, and France are keen on getting an opportunity for entering Indian education hub to provide students an opportunity to avail international quality education in their home country.
Benefits of Foreign Universities opening up in India
The foreign universities will help the students to get International level competence and exposure will help them to compete globally.
This is going to also help increase chances of students getting good quality placements thus reducing the migration to foreign countries in search of placement and good package.

It is a long way to go for the new education policy to be implemented and for the changes to be visible in the current setup.
Due to covid educational universities are suffering from financial instability due to which a lot of incentives from the government is required to attract them to come and be a part of Indian higher education hub.
Some opposition parties have termed them as a move that will create a class difference as very few in India can afford the fees charged by them.
It becomes very important for the government to solve all such issues and notions, as there entry is very much required to take Indian higher education to another level.
Similarly, government has to also take strong steps to improve current government universities so that students from abroad are also attracted to Indian universities.
