According to sources, 350 people have fallen sick after eating ‘Kuttu Ka Atta‘, also known as Buckwheat Flour.Â
As Navratri is in full swing, people have been fasting everywhere. While during fasting, people normally have fruits for their fasting, Buckwheat flour is a major component in their fasting. Different types of foods are made with this flour like puri, khichdi, etc. There is a golden rule when buying Buckwheat flour it should not be too old.Â
Unfortunately, at least 350 people fell sick after they consumed this atta on Wednesday. The incident took place in Haryana’s Sonipat.Â
After this incident occurred, a whole team of Food and Security decided to raid several grocery shops in Sonipat. They wanted to find out how the Buckwheat flour have been contaminated.Â
Men, women, and children, no one was saved from this case of suffering. All of them were hospitalized after they started vomiting continuously. Most of them even lost consciousness.
Their conditions worsened quite quickly and they were all hospitalized. The doctors checking on the patients have reported that all these people have fallen sick because they suffered from food poisoning. The doctor has said that they have fallen sick after eating adulterated Buckwheat flour.Â
Case of Uttar Pradesh, Ghaziabad
Another incident was also reported which happened in Uttar Pradesh’s Ghaziabad. This was similar to the case of Sonipat where patients had to be admitted to a hospital.Â
All the patients had symptoms of dehydration, abdominal pain, and diarrhea. Some of the patients’ conditions are quite serious. The doctor observing these patients has also reported that all these are due to the consumption of Buckwheat flour.Â
It was also observed that people who have fallen sick mostly consist of women and children.
According to reports, people are claiming that this particular type of flour is being sold with some other kind of mixture which has led to food poisoning. A sample has been sent to food security to make sure whether their claim is true or not.Â
It is essential that when you buy Buckwheat flour, you have been conscious of what you are buying and don’t end up buying old products.Â
The easiest way Buckwheat flour gets contaminated is as soon as it comes with air. The amount of toxic substances increases up to 20 times.Â
It is always advised to buy Buckwheat flour packaged instead of buying it from the open market. Otherwise, people can fall sick very easily due to food poisoning.Â

Looking back at various reports, it has been observed that during this time of Navratri, there have always been cases of food poisoning. People tend to fall sick as they consume Buckwheat flour. Whether it’s due to the negligence of the supplier or the shopkeeper, it is important to make sure that you consume recent and top-quality Buckwheat flour.Â
Also, after buying the Buckwheat flour, you should wash it first thoroughly. Then dry it and grind it in a mixie. The final step is to filter it. Only then it becomes the safest to consume while you are fasting.Â
While so many people have been already hospitalized, you must take care of your health. During fasting, a general person’s immunity can become low. According to sources, all the people who have been hospitalized have not been released yet and the doctor has decided to keep them under observation for now.Â
