Google maps comeback with the street view feature in India after 11 years. On Wednesday government shows green flag to launch the street view feature in India in collaboration with Genesys and Tech Mahindra companies.
Street View Availability
The 360-degree panoramic view will be available initially in 10 major cities- Bangalore, Chennai, Delhi, Mumbai, Hyderabad, Pune, Nashik, Vadodara, Ahmednagar, and Amritsar by covering 150,000 kilometers of roads. Later the project will be expanded to more than 50 cities by the end of the year.
It is super easy to access this feature. Firstly, you have to open the Google Maps app, type the name of the destination and search for it.
There will be an icon at the bottom of the screen, just tap on it to get a street view look of the required location. You will find the local cafes, shops, restaurants and cultural hotspots or anyone check out the local neighborhood.
The company mentioned that “street view will help people navigate and explore new nooks of the country and the world through the visual tour, enabling them to fully experience the real-time feel of any places, right from their phone or computer.”
As per the National geospatial policy 2021, local companies can collect and publish geospatial data and foreign firms can license the data from Indian companies to serve Indian customers.
Miriam Karthika Daniel, VP-Google Maps Experiences told reporters that “The new geospatial policy allows local entities to do the data collection at a certain level of fidelity. So our partners in India, configure the cameras, and they go and do the data collection.
They own the data that they collect, but then they license it to entities like google, so we can actually integrate it and offer services like Google Maps.”
Bengaluru becomes the first city to experience this feature by Google for traffic management in the city. Google has announced its tie-up with Bengaluru traffic police as part of its efforts toward delivering models that better optimize traffic light timings.
The police commissioner said, “We are proud to be part of Google’s initiative on reducing traffic congestion and easy management of traffic in the city. This will help millions of commuters to have hassle-free rides in their daily life.
We have recently started a pilot project with Google to optimize the traffic light configuration. This has already reduced signal waiting time for commuters.”
The tech giant has announced a partnership with India’s central pollution control board. This partnership will work together to provide information on air quality over maps which will be beneficial for daily commuters.
