Pune: On July 24, less than ten hours after the kidnapping, the Pimpri-Chinchwad police were able to free a four-year-old child from the Chikhali neighbourhood. Six persons were detained by the police during the search operation, according to the Hindustan Times.
Tara Raja Sheikh filed a police report on July 23. According to the lawsuit, the four-year-old daughter of the Sheikh went missing in Tamhane Wasti while playing close to the residence. Additionally, the complaint states that Sheikh leaves her daughter at the neighbour’s house every day before heading to work.
Police discovered suspicious activities on the CCTV footage that had been recorded by the neighbours of Sheikh. The police then organised squads and started their search efforts.
Search operations were carried out in Junnar by Pimpri-Chinchwad police and their rural counterparts from Pune, and the suspect was captured. A handful of the accused had visited the home two days before the incident and are related to the complainant’s neighbour. According to a subsequent story by Hindustan Times, police had taken possession of the kidnapped girl.
“We arrested the culprit within 10 hours after the kidnapping,” said Anand Bhoite, DCP Zone II. Primarily, we believe the girl was abducted for human sacrifice, although we have not yet determined the precise reason why. The matter has been turned over to the anti-human trafficking squad by the Pimpri-Chinchwad police.
A non-governmental organisation (NGO) founded by the assassinated rationalist and anti-superstition activist Dr Narendra Dabholkar, has called for action against the guilty.
“Police deny that this instance involves human sacrifice. However, given Thursday’s Amavasya, we cannot rule out the possibility. Similar incidents have been encountered in the past, according to ANiS’ Milind Deshmukh.
