Rights of minors in India
In India, minors are entitled to several rights to protect their well-being and ensure their development.
The Constitution and various laws emphasize the importance of safeguarding their interests. The Right to Education Act guarantees free and compulsory education for children aged 6 to 14 years, promoting literacy and knowledge.
The Child Labour (Prohibition and Regulation) Act prohibits minors from engaging in hazardous work, protecting them from exploitation. The Juvenile Justice Act focuses on the care and rehabilitation of juvenile offenders, emphasizing their rights during legal proceedings.
The Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act aims to safeguard minors from sexual offenses and provide a child-friendly legal process.
While these laws exist, challenges remain, and continued efforts are necessary to ensure all minors in India can lead safe, healthy, and empowered lives.
