A case has been registered against eight people who have been alleged of smoking hookah and cooking chicken on a boat on the Holy Ganga. The case is registered in Uttar Pradesh’s Prayagraj. The act came into notice when a video of them went viral on social media.
The Prayagraj Police on Wednesday via a Twitter post informed that two identified and six unidentified individuals (absconding as of now) have been booked. Following this, all those guilty would be arrested soon. The FIR was filed on the complaint of Bakshi outpost in-charge Diwakar Singh after the video got surfaced.
The FIR filed against those identified (Ajaf and Hassan) was registered under Section 153A (promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of religion, and race) and 295 (defiling place of worship) of the IPC. The two are the residents of Bakshi Khurd in Daraganj.

The accused have hurt the religious sentiments of the individuals. According to an NDTV report, they have defiled the place of worship.
The video contains a clipping of a man in a white shirt who was seen puffing a hookah on a boat in a 30-second video. The video caught the attention of people via social media. A probe was launched into the issue after the video went viral and came to the attention.
The video further showcased the individuals eating kebabs being roasted as the boat floats on the Holy Ganga near the holy Sangam in Prayagraj.
The incident ignited various emotions of disappointment and anger amongst the netizens. They are demanding. strict actions against the men for their guilty actions.
Some questioned the state’s law and order while some demanded that the UP Police should arrest them immediately.
The video has been retweeted by many people who have tagged UP chief minister Yogi Adityanath in the post and have demanded action.
People have varied perspectives on this incident. A part of the group who saw the video said that there’s nothing wrong and illegal with having hookah and chicken during a boat ride on the Holy ganga river.
However, the police of Uttar Pradesh has formulated a team for hunting the alleged offenders. The video is assumed to be from the Nagvasuki Mandir from Daraganj in Prayagraj. It is an important pilgrimage for Hindus.
