The INTERPOL’s General Assembly Meet is happening in New Delhi, from 18 to 21 October 2022.
INTERPOL is an International Criminal Police Organisation founded 99 years ago on 7 September 1923. It is an Inter Governmental Organisation with 195 member countries. The organisation is set up for world wide police cooperation and crime control. The organization is facilitate to provide investigation support, expertise, intelligence and training to law enforcement agencies worldwide, targeting on three major aspects of transnational crime : terrorism, cyber crime and organised crime.
The General Assembly is Interpol’s supreme governing body and it brings all countries together once a year to take crucial decisions. This year India is the host country for the Interpol’s General Assembly Meet. The meet is happening in the national capital of the country, New Delhi. This four day meet was inaugurated and addressed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on October 18, 2022. While addressing the gathering at Assembly Meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi said, “There are many harmful globalized threats that the world faces: terrorism, corruption, drug trafficking, poaching and organized crime. When threats are global, the response cannot be just local. The pace of change of these dangers is faster than ever. Over the last Ninety nine years Interpol has connected police globally over 195 countries. Making a safer world is a shared responsibility. When the forces of good co-operate, the forces of bad cannot operate”, he added.
The Interpol president Ahmed Naser-Al-Raisi said, “As the world’s largest policing organisation, it is the job of Interpol to make sure that all countries are supported. Partnership and information sharing helps us to better tackle and prevent crimes. Interpol’s databases are the foundation that supports our work and every country’s contribution is vital”.
In this conference there is a launch of Interpol’s first ever Global Crime Trend Report. The report consists of data and information from the organisation’s 195 member countries, to identify current and emerging threats world wide.
In this four day meet the delegations from 195 member countries are attending the conference. These delegations comprise Minister’s, Police Chief’s of Countries, Heads of Central Bureau’s, and Senior Police Officers. The meet will look forward to making key decisions related to its functioning.
