Over the past few months, there has been a sudden buzz in the interest of satellite communications and internet-based services. Now, the Indian government is set to take it up the notch with the launch of the Indian space association (ISA).
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be launching the Indian Space Association on October 11th via a virtual event.
Talking about the virtual launch, ISpA Director General A. K. Bhatt said that the launch ceremony would be streamed live across ISpA’s digital channels.
“We are truly honored to have the Hon’ble Prime Minister grace the launch ceremony and outline his vision for the growth of India’s space industry and making our nation a global leader in the space arena,” he said in a statement.
Indian space association
Reflecting on the Prime Minister’s vision of Atma Nirbhar Bharat, the Indian Space Association [ISpA], is set to become an exclusive space industry advocacy group that will engage with various stakeholders of the Indian space ecosystem include the Indian government and its agencies.
It aims for enhancing the evolving landscape of space activities in India and to make the country a self-reliant body in the space sector.
In a statement released by ISRO, ISRO chairman Dr. K Sivan suggested Indian start-ups and growing industry players also join the ISpA and benefit from the platform.
Representing homegrown corporationsÂ
The association is to be represented by top homegrown and global corporations with advanced reach in the space and satellite technologies domain.
The core members include Bharti Airtel, Larsen & Toubro, Nelco (Tata Group), OneWeb, Mapmyindia, Walchandnagar Industries, and Ananth Technology Limited.
Other members include Godrej, HughesIndia, Azista-BSTAerospace PrivateLimited, BEL, Centum Electronics, Maxar India.
As per the government statement, Jayant Patil, Senior Executive Vice President for Defence L&T-NxT, is set to be the first chairman of the association, while Rahul Vatts, Chief Regulatory Officer of Bharat airtel, will be serving as vice-chairman
