On September 19,2022, Indian Minister of External Affairs S. Jaishankar arrived in the United States for High Level General Assembly Session of United Nations.
During the UN General Assembly, India, the United Arab Emirates, and France had their first trilateral ministerial meeting to explore a contemporary method of diplomatic procedure that involves an active exchange of ideas between key allies and members of the UN Security Council.
“A productive first trilateral ministerial session between France, the UAE, and India. After the Monday meeting with French Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs Catherine Colonna and UAE Foreign Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al-Nahyan, which was sponsored by the UAE, Mr. Jaishankar tweeted, “Active exchange of ideas amongst major allies and UNSC members.”
Despite their differences, the three nations remain strategic allies and conversations have centered on areas of overlap as well as how to define and concretize these overlaps moving ahead, according to government sources.
They said that while the three nations are highly at ease with one another, there are numerous areas where they could be able to collaborate more closely.
According to them, such trilateral gatherings represent a new and more modern approach to diplomacy. They gave examples of the current organizations such as the Quad (Australia, India, Japan, US), and I2U2 (Israel, India, United Arab Emirates, and US), and trilateral between India, France, and Australia as examples of forums that are proving to be successful at identifying shared interests.
They emphasized that, with the exception of BRICS, organizations were mainly regional and contiguous in character, such as SAARC, BIMSTEC, ASEAN, and the EU (Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa).
According to the official sources, diplomacy is now evolving and there are nations cooperating that are not neighbors or located next to one another in an area but instead share a set of interests.
Mr. Jaishankar tweeted after his private meeting with the foreign minister of the UAE: “Reviewed the continuous development of our collaboration. I valued his opinions and observations on the world situation.” Considering that both Mr. Jaishankar’s visit two weeks ago for the 14th India-UAE Joint Commission Meeting and Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s trip to the Gulf nation in June of this year, things are reportedly progressing quite well for India with the UAE on a number of fronts.
