Winners in six categories will be honoured for their accomplishments and efforts at a ceremony hosted by the very renowned CNN-News 18 on October 12, 2022.
Raghav Bahl launched CNN-News18, an English-language news television channel with a base in Noida, Uttar Pradesh, India. Currently, Warner Bros, Discovery and Network18 Group jointly own it.
The Indian Broadcasting Network focuses on Indian and local news, while CNN offers international coverage for the station. Reliance Industries and RP-Sanjiv Goenka Group are the co-presenting partners for CNN-“Indian News18’s of the Year 2022.”
Through this flagship program, CNN-News18 has been setting the standard for recognizing social change agents in the nation.
Indian Awards of the Year 2022
The CNN-News18 Indian of the Year (IOTY) 2022, now in its 12th year, will honour Indians with awards in a variety of categories for the accomplishments that they have made and made their nation proud.
These people includes athletes, celebrities from the entertainment sector, politicians, business owners, and activists for social change.
All eyes are on CNN News-18, who will be the IOTY 2022 ?
In this edition of the prestigious competition, which will take place today, October 12, an additional category called “Climate Warriors” has been added to recognise the efforts of people who are fighting to bring about an environmental change that is significant and sustainable.

Zakka Jacob, managing editor of CNN-News18, commented on the ceremony, saying, “It delights me to state that we are building upon our legacy and adding new categories to chart the all-encompassing advancement of India in the global arena. Underscoring Indian excellence across six categories, we look forward to a ceremony full of brilliance this time.”
Neeraj Chopra, the second Indian to win a gold medal, who ended India’s 100-year gold medal drought in track and field at the Olympics, is the first name on this year’s nomination list for sports.
Lakshya Sen, a former junior badminton world number one, and Nikhat Zareen, a gold medallist at the 2022 World Boxing Championship, have also been nominated. The nominees include performers first from indoor arena as well.
Achanta Sharath Kamal, a table tennis player who won three gold and one silver at the CWG, R Praggnanandhaa, a chess prodigy, and the fifth youngest grandmaster in chess are also included on the list.
Actors Alia Bhatt, Allu Arjun, Kartik Aaryan, team RRR (SS Rajamouli, Junior NTR, and Ramcharan), and The Kashmir Files director Vivek Agnihotri are among those nominated in the Entertainment category.
Moving on to startups, Falguni Nayar of Nykaa, which effectively and successfully went public in 2021, is among this year’s nominees in the category. Other nominees include the education technology platform Physics Wallah and the brokerage firm Zerodha, established by the Kamath brothers. The list also includes food aggregator Swiggy and Zoho, both of which were established by Sridhar Vembu.
Indian of the Year 2022
The nominees for this year’s Social Change category at the CNN-News18 Indian of the Year set a high bar for success in everything from encouraging women to practice self-defense to elevating marginalized sectors via education.
Accredited Social Health Activists or Asha Workers have indeed been nominated in the following category, Social Change, for their efforts assisting marginalized groups in receiving the advantages of various government health care programs.
The Gurugram-based NGO Hemkunt Foundation, which assisted those in need across the nation and built up facilities with oxygenation concentrators amid the devouring second wave of COVID-19, is also included on the list. A 13-year-old Kashmiri boy named Tajamul Islam is also listed among the contenders for starting a sports academy in the city, together with Dr. Shankare Gowda, widely known as the “Five-Rupee Doctor” for his altruistic work. The category will also feature competition from Raju Kendre, a man of twenty eight- an old inhabitant of Buldhana, Maharashtra, who is working to open up higher education to the underprivileged.
Category for Climate Warriors
Five candidates have been nominated for the newest category, Climate Warriors. Marimuthu Yoganathan, a bus driver known as the “Tree Man of Tamil Nadu,” has been recognized for his efforts to promote environmental protection by giving away free seedlings to travelers and planting three lakh saplings over the course of 30 years at his own expense.
One of the nominees is Sumaira Abdulali, whose non-profit organization Awaaz Foundation has been trying to bring attention to concerns relating to noise pollution. The third name is Padma Shri Jamuna Tudu, widely known as “Lady Tarzan” for her work in Jharkhand against the wood mafia, accompanied by Jadav Molai Payeng, who is recognized with being the only creator of a 550-hectare forest reserve on Majuli Island in Assam. Prasiddhi Singh, nine, is the youngest nominee and was recognized for establishing 28 fruit forests and thousands of plants in Chennai.
Sania Mirza: Indian professional tennis player, Sonu Sood: Indian actor, film producer, model, humanitarian, and philanthropist, and Vice President of India: Jagdeep Dhankhar are among the well-known individuals who will attend the event.
These awards will recognize the achievements of those Indians, who through their grit and determination, have brought pride to the country.
All the winners of different categories will be announced on the same day, October 12, 2022, starting at 6 p.m., exclusively on CNN-News18.
