Taylor Swift has been receiving criticism for being in the “Directors on Directors” series with Martin McDonagh without having directed any feature films.

Questionable Lineup?
Taylor Swift, the American singer-songwriter, has been chosen for kicking off the Hollywood magazine Varietyโs “Directors on Directors” series with Martin McDonagh. Immediate backlash followed this announcement as people questioned her involvement in the series when she has never directed a feature film and only has a short film โAll Too Wellโ to her name. Given the incredible lineup which was announced on Thursday involving award-winning directors such as James Cameron, Francis Ford Coppola and young filmmakers such as Ryan Coogler, Sarah Polley and more, cinephiles immediately criticized the decision of adding Taylor to the lineup, making it questionable.

Reactions
Film fans took to twitter to express their disappointment about the situation. One user wrote, โTaylor Swift who directed 1 (one) short film in the same lineup as Ryan Coogler and Rian Johnson lmaoโ. Another wrote, โWhat is this BS?????? yt (sic) mediocrity really be prevailing but what do you expect from Hollywood”. They found the timing of her feature directorial debut announcement suspicious as it had little information and seemed to be backing the singer’s plans as a filmmaker.
Taylorโs Feature Directorial Debut
In midst of this chaos came the news that Taylor is going to make her feature film directorial debut with an original script. The film will be produced by Searchlight Pictures. Searchlight Presidents David Greenbaum and Matthew Greenfield gave a joint statement praising the singer, โTaylor is a once-in-a-generation artist and storyteller. It is a genuine joy and privilege to collaborate with her as she embarks on this exciting and new creative journeyโ. The production company will unveil the rest of the details later.
Fans came to the rescue of the singer among the criticisms as one fan tweeted, โShe is directing a full on movie now chill.โ Not to mention, her short film โAll Too Well: The Short Filmโ, which she wrote herself, was shown at the Toronto International Film Festival and the 2022 Tribeca Film Festival. It is also being submitted in the short film category for the upcoming 95th Academy Awards.
