“The Chinese embassy has given the RGF 1.35 crore between 2005 and 2007. The home ministry cancelled the RGF’s FCRA registration after exercising due diligence “said he.
Amit Shah, the union home minister, made the statement on Tuesday as the opposition called for a dialogue on the battles between Indian and Chinese soldiers along the LAC in Arunachal Pradesh. “No one can capture an inch of territory while the Narendra Modi government is in power,” the opposition stated.
Speaking to media in front of Parliament House, Mr. Shah claimed that the Rajiv Gandhi Foundation’s (RGF) registration under the Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Act (FCRA) had been revoked because it had reportedly received 1.35 crore from the Chinese Embassy.
Additionally, according to Amit Shah, Sonia Gandhi’s Foundation received 50 lakh from Zakir Naik, the man behind the Islamic Research Foundation (IRF), which the government outlawed for allegedly supporting terrorism.
The Minister made it quite clear on the border issue that the “Any land incursion will not be tolerated by the BJP government. We won’t let a single inch of the land go. The soldiers’ valour is commendable; they have preserved our country “.
The Congress, according to Mr. Shah, disturbed the Lok Sabha’s business by blaming border conflicts, but in reality, it did so because it did not want to learn the truth about the RGF, which was the subject of a query during the House’s Question Period.
“The Chinese embassy has given the RGF 1.35 crore between 2005 and 2007. The home ministry cancelled the RGF’s FCRA registration after exercising due diligence “said he.
Any NGO that wants to receive foreign money is required by law to register with the FCRA.
While the Congress stated that the funds from the embassy were intended to fund research on relations between India and China, according to Amit Shah, the nation wanted to know if the study addressed the problem of land that India lost during the 1962 conflict.
He questioned whether the party had done any research on the subject after recalling China’s concerns on the then-prime minister Manmohan Singh’s trip to Arunachal Pradesh on October 13, 2009.
The minister questioned whether the party had also looked into matters such as China’s encroachment on thousands of hectares of land, Jawaharlal Nehru’s “sacrifice” of India’s seat on the UN Security Council, China’s denial of a visa to the then-chief minister of Arunachal Pradesh, Dorjee Khandu, and the issuance of staple visas to Jammu and Kashmir residents.
Mr. Shah further asserted that while the Indian soldiers were engaged in combat with the Chinese PLA at Galwan, a member of the Congress hosted a dinner for a representative of the Chinese embassy and inquired as to why crucial infrastructure projects had been put on hold in 2012 as a result of a Chinese threat.
The RGF and Rajiv Gandhi Charitable Trust (RGCT) had their FCRA registrations revoked in October of last year following an inquiry by an inter-ministerial committee that the home ministry had established in 2020.
Manmohan Singh, a former prime minister, P Chidambaram, Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, Montek Singh Ahluwalia, Suman Dubey, and Ashok Ganguly are the trustees of the RGF.
Rahul Gandhi, Ashok Ganguly, Bansi Mehta, and Deep Joshi are the RGCT’s trustees.
Founded in 1991, the RGF worked until 2009 on a range of important topics, including support for people with disabilities, women and children, science and technology, and health. According to the company’s website, it also operated in the education industry.
The RGCT was started in 2002 to help the poor and underprivileged, particularly the rural poor, with their development requirements.
