The tragic incident has stirred the locals to the streets to urge the officials to take strict measures against the attackers. The victim was returning home from work when a stalker threw acid at her face and ran away in the Wantpora area of Hawal in Srinagar.
The police arrested three men on Wednesday, February 2, for the incident. The accused, Sajid Altaf, was rejected by the victim, and in a bid to take revenge and conserve his pride, he committed the heinous act.
Sajid, who worked at a pharmacy, had purchased the acid from Mohammed Saleem, a motor mechanic. He left work early on Tuesday and rode with his accomplice and friend, Momin Nazir Sheikh, to the victim’s workplace to take revenge.
On Wednesday, a protest took place at Jahangir Chowk in the city, with protesters alleging that the government should check the acid sale ledger to prevent the illegal sale of acid to prevent such crimes.
Sheikh Saba of White Globe organisation stated that the girl has faced damage to her soul, identity and face and demanded capital punishment for the culprits.
