Sitting at the bottom of the table, Mumbai Indians and Delhi Capitals are seen struggling in the IPL 2024 season. With their key players, Jasprit Bumrah for Mumbai Indians and Rishabh Pant for Delhi Capitals, out of the game, they haven’t been the same as their previous seasons. Today’s match will certain the winning of one team but both teams would have to put their A-games on the field.
Mumbai Indians lost two matches and Delhi Capitals lost three matches, both these teams’ fortunes have mirrored each other in the season so far. The combination of both prior personal commitments and injuries is the reason for players’ unavailability. So, both teams are still figuring out their best playing 11 (or 12) and the solution for this can’t be seen in the near future.
Although David Warner had given two half-centuries in their total of three matches, the other end was never steady. It has always been Warner playing the opener and the anchor part of the team and from the other end it’s just falling of wickets. Prithvi Shaw, one of the big names from Delhi Capitals, hasn’t been on the top of his game this season. The maximum number of balls that Shaw faced was around 17 to 20 balls and scoring not even 20 runs in total. He is known to play the role of setting a platform for the middle order earlier and has done it before too.

But on the other hand, Mumbai Indians are struggling in the bowling attack in the absence of their star pacer Jasprit Bumrah, the team was too dependent on Jofra Archer. But he too experienced some discomfort in his right elbow due to which he missed the previous match. For MI, Piyush Chawla and Jason Behrendorff took three wickets each.
Ricky Ponting, former Australian player, and current head coach of Delhi Capitals, also said that the team is still searching for its soul in the tournament. Mumbai Indians Skipper Rohit Sharma also said in the previous match’s post-match presentation interview that the senior members of the team need to step up including him.
The silver lining at the end is that one of the two teams would open their winning account this season. Fans would be looking forward to Rohit the HITMAN, as his last half-century was 24 innings ago. Surya Kumar Yadav’s bat has been silent throughout the season which is not a good sign not just for Mumbai Indians but for the upcoming ODI World Cup as well.
The five-time champions Mumbai Indians are having a bad season but they are fighters and would look to make the comeback as for Delhi Capitals, they are too known for the determination and grit that they showcase on the field. Both teams know their weak points and are very open about it and are looking for solutions by experimenting early on in the season which is the only way for being able to become the horse of the long run in the tournament.
