Abhishek Banerjee, a member of the Trinamool Congress (TMC), was called in for questioning by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Friday in relation to the School Service Commission recruitment scam involving crores of money.
The CBI is investigating alleged anomalies in the recruitment of Group C and Group D workers, as well as instructors, at government-sponsored and aided schools sponsored by the West Bengal Public Service Commission. The Enforcement Directorate (ED) is also looking into the incident.
TMC’s Response
According to Mr. Banerjee, it was a politically influenced move by the ruling party at the Centre. Whereas he also tweeted complaining that even though he was not given a day time for obeying the notice, still he will and offer full cooperation during the entire process. Quoting what Banerjee said, “Apart from the crowds, I will not bow my head before anyone. However, the numbers at my gathering are causing issues for the BJP, and BJP workers are approaching me and asking for assistance. I’m attempting to fix difficulties. At 2.30 p.m. today, I received a phone call from home informing me that CBI will contact me the next day. I expected them to allow me at least two days to do my yatra”.
He also suggested that he will hang himself to death if he is found guilty while challenging the order of the judiciary and the notice of the Central Bureau of Investigation.
Meanwhile, Mamata Banerjee, the chief minister of West Bengal, reacted angrily and claimed the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) was abusing investigative agencies against opposition parties and said that the party is after her family but she is not scared of it.
