A tête-à-tête with Cyrus Broacha saw an unashamed and candid Pooja sharing her relationship with alcohol from being addicted to it to now, taming her dependency over it at the age of 44. She also commented quite vehemently on how society excuses and even normalises talking about males struggling with drinking issues while for a woman it is seen as a taboo.

Unleashing her annoyance over this prejudice, she expresses, “Society gives a licence to men and thus they can openly speak about being addicted and recovering from alcoholism.”
Elaborating on her own experience, she adds that unlike other women who bow their heads to societal dogmas, she never drank surreptitiously. So why must she keep her journey to teetotalism a secret?
She also went on to confess how people used to call her an addict and she, resiliently, used to rectify that statement by saying she was a ‘recovering addict’ Now she proudly shares that she put a full stop to her association with alcohol 7 years back.
A Long-drawn Battle with Alcohol
Pooja had never shied away from her fight with alcohol dependency and had voiced her struggles openly in interviews.
