On Wednesday Enforcement directorate raids 15 locations in Mumbai in a scam of 12000 crore by BMC during Covid-19 pandemic.
ED conducts raid on multiple locations of BMC officers, supplier and others in connection with the alleged scam.
The raid have been conducted against close aide of Maharashtra’s ex-CM Uddhav Thackeray his son Aditya Thackeray and Shivsena(UBT) MP Sanjay Raut.
The raids are being connected on the location of Suraj Chavan, and associate of Aditya Thackeray. ED also searched the locations of IAS Sanjeev Jaiswal, Sujit Patkar a close aide of Sanjay Raut and others.
On Monday CM Eknath Shinde had ordered a special investigation team(SIT) to investigate the contract of 12000 crore given by BMC to CAG a supreme audit institute.
Background of the case
In the starting of this year, ED questioned BMC commisisoner IS Chahal for the same.
ED was investigating the alleged scam since a money laundering case was registered by the ED against Sujat Patkar, close associate of Shivsena(UBT) MP Sanjay Raut.
BJP MLA Krit Somaiya filed a complaint in the matter
BJP MLA Kirit Somaiya alleged that the contract was given to Suraj Patkar who has no experience.
The Azad maidan police station filed a fir against Life line hospital management services and Patkar was co- partner in LHMS firm. Sanjay Shah, Raju Salunkhe, Hemant Gupta, The four are alleged to have fraudulently bagged BMC contracts for managing Covid field hospitals during the pandemic. After registering the case, the police transferred it to the EOW to probe cheating and forgery allegations. Subsequently, the ED registered the money laundering case for investigation.
Police also filed a FIR against Patkar and three other partners for getting the covid management contract through wrong means. The case was later handed over to EOW.
It is also alleged that the first was unregistered when got the contract and was inexperienced too.
