Titanic’s Return on Netflix called ‘Insensitive’ amidst ‘Titan’ Tragedy
The decision to reinstate Titanic on Netflix on July 1 gathered severe condemnation from the public owing to the recent implosion of the submersible ‘Titan’ and the deaths of 5 voyagers onboard. A few enraged trollers even went on to call this move ‘insensitive’ and ‘horrible’.

‘Titanic’, the legendary film by James Cameron was already streaming on Netflix’s website until August 31. However, the company was compelled to dismount the film from its collection as it lost the legal rights to own the film. Titanic continued to be made available on Amazon Prime Video.
Not long ago, Netflix released a list of films to restore on the website. The index included the Oscar-winning 1997 film ‘Titanic’ as well.
The recent sinking of the submersible ‘Titan’ and the death of its five travellers has led to a huge disturbance and distress among the public.
In light of this appalling fiasco, Netflix’s programme to re-launch the film on the platform on July , was trolled fervently by netizens.
Netflix Endures Fierce Trolling over a Coincidence
Among the plethora of criticisms that Netflix received on social media ahead of the reinstallation of ‘Titanic’, some were notably intrepid. A post brazenly accused Netflix’s decision as a marketing strategy and called it ‘distasteful’.
The Kate Winslet and Leonardo DiCaprio starrer film, already a fan-favourite, has garnered even more ballyhoo after the unfortunate sinking of the Titan on June 18. The critic argued that Netflix aims to capitalise on the catastrophe.

Some trolls berated Netflix, saying that the narrative of the film would be ‘triggering’ to watch especially when the wounds of the Titan’s submersion were still afresh in the public’s mind.
Another user commented ‘The timing is so wrong’ while several backlashed the entertainment company and lambasted it for ‘overstepping the boundaries of decency’
Netflix has remained tight-lipped over the castigation it has received and may even decide to reschedule the release. However, this episode is a mere coincidence since Netflix had divulged the list of films to be returned on the platform several months in advance of the Titan’s mishap.

A few days back, a submersible watercraft named ‘Titan’ went on an odyssey in the North Atlantic Ocean, 13,000 feet deep to probe into the wreckage of the illustrious 1912 Titanic shipwreck.

It soon lost connections on the radar and was labelled missing. Eventually, after days of futile searching and the recovery of debris near Titanic’s ruins confirmed a fatal implosion of the aquatic vehicle. On June 18, the US Coast Guards affirmed the deaths of all the five travellers on board.
The deceased included OceanGate CEO and Titan’s pilot Stockton Rush, English Entrepreneur Hamish Harding, British-Pakistani tycoon Shahzada Dawood along with his son Suleman, and ex-French Navy diver Paul-Henri Nargeolet.
James Cameron calls the mishap ‘Surreal’
James Cameron, the maker of movie ‘Titanic’ and a diver, who has himself scoured the wreckage of The Titanic in his umpteen diving quests was bombarded by the media for his opinions on the current cataclysm.

He confessed to being stunned by the similarity of the debacle. For the sinking to take place in the exact same location despite so many advancements in technology was quite ‘astonishing’ for the well-known Hollywood Director.
Cameron, who is a submersible designer himself says like the Titanic that collapsed with the iceberg despite several warnings, the Titan tragedy too is a result of warnings going unheeded by the Captain.
