According to the Elysee Palace, the notion of a summit suggested by France President Emmanuel Macron to address security and strategic stability in Europe has been agreed upon by US President Joe Biden and Russian President Vladimir Putin.Â
Macron held telephone talks with Putin twice during the day and also spoke with Biden about the situation in Ukraine. President Macron “proposed a summit to be held between President Biden and President Putin and then with relevant stakeholders to discuss security and strategic stability in Europe,” according to a statement released by the Elysee on Sunday.Â
According to the statement, Biden and Putin have both agreed to the premise of such a meeting. Also, the substance of such a summit will have to be prepared by US Secretary of State Antony Blinken and Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov during their February 24 meeting. According to the statement, the session can only occur if Russia does not attack Ukraine. The President of the French Republic’s official residence, the French President, will work with all stakeholders to prepare the subject of these discussions.Â
