X is making remarkable changes regarding their terms and conditions of service. The company wants their users to refer to the updates that you gave on your social media handle as “posts” rather than “tweets”. These new terms shall be effective on 29th of September 2024 which will officially mark the end of an era of using the term “tweet”.
X is also slowly revamping their branding from Twitter. Though, the word Twitter has been largely replaced by X but some URLs that a developer focused still contain the brand-name Twitter.
The above stated and a report by Verge suggests that X is not completely against it would not completely disregard Twitter as we can still be redirected to Twitter.com from X.com.
The Reason from “Tweet” to “Post”
The decision to rebrand “tweets” to “posts” it’s more than just a cosmetic change. The significance of this decision lies in the change in the identity of the company itself. It can be seen as a planned effort to rebrand the image of Twitter itself in the audience.
By choosing to use the term “posts”, Twitter acknowledges the fact that it is no longer tweeting messages/opinions but adopting a much bigger spectrum of consent.
The term “tweets” does not encompass diversity in content unlike the term “posts” which clearly indicates that X is now not limited to just textual content, but it is an amalgamation of videos, images, lengthy threads and live broadcasts.
Adjust and Align
Moreover, the lingo of tweeting is limited to Twitter itself and does not appeal to a wider set of audience, unlike its counterpart which is already mentioned. By aligning to the familiarity of the audience, they are making the platform more intuitive.
Twitter’s now-defunct live streaming app, has now been removed from the terms and conditions. Leaving aside the brand changes that have happened, there have also been other significant changes and updates to the terms.
One of the significant changes that have been made is a clause that states when you use X to a limit which is permissible by law, you also relinquish the right to participate as a plaintiff or any class member in purported class action, representative action or collective action proceeding.
Prohibition of Data Scraping
The updated terms have now been included with updated language policies that ensure against scraping data from X’s services. It’s just that any form of scraping or crawling of the services without the written prior consent of the company is expressly prohibited. This change is aligned with the preferences of the owner of the company, Elon Musk.
On top of that, X is now asking their users, permission and access to their employment, history and biometric data. This new update in the privacy policy states that according to the consent that you will provide us, the data thus collected will be used for security, identification and safety purposes.
Furthermore, it also states that X may use this data/information consisting of educational, background, employment, history, job preferences, job search activity and skills to recommend potential jobs and to share the data to potential employers and show advertising cater to the same.
All of these new updates to the conditions and terms of X shall be implemented from 29th of September 2024. Therefore, if you are a regular user of X/Twitter, then be prepared for the changes to come.
