Russian Military troops widened their offensive strikes in Ukraine. Perhaps indicating a new direction in the war, two cities of western Ukraine, Ivano-Frankivsk and Lutsk, far from the main offensive sites of the fighting, were attacked. Long-distance airstrikes were carried out overnight which destroyed the airfields of the cities. Although, the Russian troops invading Ukraine kept up the pressure on the capital city, Kyiv and the port city, Mariupol.
Mayor Ruslan Martsinkiv ordered the residents to move to nearby shelters after an air raid alert since the Russian troops targeted an airport near Ivano-Frankivsk was targeted. Lutsk Mayor also announced an airstrike by the Russian military near the airport.
According to the head of the surrounding Volyn region, Yuriy Pohulyayko, two Ukrainian servicemen died and six people were wounded during the airstrikes at the Lutsk military airfield.
According to Bloomberg, the Ukraine officials said that the two cities were hit by airstrikes but they did not confirm whether the projectiles landed at the airfields or not.
Meanwhile, new satellite photos emerged that showed a massive convoy stood outside of the Ukrainian capital had potentially spread out into the towns and forests near Kyiv with artilleries raised for firing in a threatening movement.
These pictures emerged in the middle of the efforts taken internationally, to isolate and impose sanctions on Russia. Especially after the brutal airstrikes on a maternity hospital in Mariupol which was widely criticised by the Ukrainian officials as a war crime.
With the support of the Red Cross, the Ukranian officials have been prioritizing to help people who are struggling to flee Mariupol and Kyiv. And have also been announcing several plans for evacuations and various humane aid delivery routes.
To substantiate, according to Bloomberg’s article, the mayor of Kyiv also said on Thursday that majority of the citizens have fled on the account of Russia’s attack on the city.
