Jessica Chastain, who won the Oscars for Best Actress in a Leading Role for her work in true to life dramatization, ‘The Eyes of Tammy Faye’ at the 94th Academy Awards, shared that in troublesome circumstances such as the one in which the whole world is going through, she feels propelled by her personality’s extreme demonstrations of adoration.
Legendary entertainer, Anthony Hopkins presented the pined for award to her on Sunday night. As she acknowledged the honour, Jessica gave her acceptance speech that was broadcasted live from the Dolby Theater in Los Angeles.
Starting the speech by expressing her gratitude to the show and the people who have helped her grow, the actress said “Thank you so much to the Academy for this. I definitely would not be up here right now, I probably wouldn’t even have a career, if it wasn’t for Hilda, Paul Nelson, Steve Warren, and Nicole Perna. I love you guys. Thank you very much.””
She also thanked her “brilliant” co-star Andrew Garfield, for bringing out the best in her by showing up every day in his best form, along with the rest of the team. “I have to thank Michael Showalter, my director, who created a space that inspired creativity and love and courage.
The incredible hair makeup team: Linda, Stephanie, Justin who helped me find her. Producers: Kelly Carmichael, Rachel Shane, Gigi Pritzker. I have to thank David Greenbaum, Matthew Greenfield, all of Searchlight for shepherding our film,” she added.
The Molly’s Game star won the award for her portrayal of the late televangelist Tammy Faye Bakker in the movie “The Eyes of Tammy Faye”. In the 1970s, Tammy Faye became popular for
her indelible eyelashes, her quirky singing, and her enthusiasm to embrace individuals from varying backgrounds.
Referring to how her character inspires her, Jessica said “In times like this, I think of Tammy, and I’m inspired by her radical acts of love. We’ve talked about love a lot tonight. I’m inspired by her compassion. I see it as a guiding principle that leads us forward. It connects us all and the desire that we want to be accepted for who we are, accepted for who we love, and to live a life without the fear of violence or terror.”
Through her speech, the Oscar-winning actress addressed the issue of the increase in suicide rate in the US and the discrimination faced by the people of the LGBTQ+ community and how it affects their lives and mental health. “Right now, we are coming out of some difficult times that have been filled with a lot of trauma and isolation.
So many people out there feel hopeless and they feel alone. Suicide is a leading cause of death in the United States. It’s touched many families. It’s touched me and especially members of the LGBTQ community who oftentimes feel out of place with their peers. We’re faced with discriminatory and bigoted legislation that is sweeping our country with the only goal of further dividing us.
Violence and hate crimes are being perpetrated on innocent civilians all over the world.” Said Chastain.Right now, we are coming out of some difficult times that have been filled with a lot of trauma and isolation. So many people out there feel hopelessness and they feel alone. Suicide is a leading cause of death in the United States.
It’s touched many families. It’s touched mine and especially members of the LGBTQ community who oftentimes feel out of place with their peers. We’re faced with discriminatory and bigoted legislation that is sweeping our country with the only goal of further dividing us. She concluded her powerful speech with a heart-warming message for the people, “For any of you out there who do feel hopeless or alone, I just want you to know that you are unconditionally loved for the uniqueness that is you.”
