Residents of Ladboli village in Sindewahi tehsil of Chandrapur district spotted a metal ring with an 8-10 ft diameter falling from the sky on April 2 in several parts of Maharashtra’s Vidarbha region, including a metal ring with an 8-10 ft diameter that was spotted by residents of Sindewahi tehsil of Chandrapur district.
While some on social media speculated that it was a meteor, astronomy experts believe it was part of a satellite that was destroyed once it entered the Earth’s atmosphere, with fragments scattered around the globe.
The two objects, a metal ring and a cylinder-like object, were discovered by residents about 7.30 p.m. in two villages in Sindewahi tehsil – the iron ring from Ladboli and the cylinder-like object, measuring around 12-18 inches from Pawanpar – according to the district officials.
What does the probe say?
Ajay Gulhane, the district collector of Chandrapur, had contacted the Disaster Management Authority and the ISRO, and deployed local revenue teams to survey all villages in the region for any more such falling objects.
“The two scientists who came from ISRO spent a day at Sindewahi with the objects found at various spots in Chandrapur district. They took photographs and videos of the objects and interacted with the Ladbori village people about the objects.
They collected as much information as possible from the local people. What type of fuel was there in the cylinders can be said only after it is checked by the laboratory,” said president of the NGO, Sky Watch Group, Suresh Chopne, who, along with his team, has been at the site from day one.
Scientists M Shahajahan and Mayuresh Shetty from ISRO paid a visit to the Sindewahi police station in Chandrapur, where the objects were held.
Similar objects fell from the sky in Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, and Gujarat at the same time. They are thought to be the remains of a Chinese long march rocket launched on February 4, 2021 according to the foreign-language markings found on the debris.
