Andrew Garfield, an Academy Award-nominated actor, declared his break from acting. Discussing the same subject, he stated that all he desires is to listen to music, spend time with friends, and eat burgers.
Andrew Garfield is ready for a vacation. For the last year or so, the actor has been working tirelessly on “The Eyes of Tammy Faye” and “Tick, Tick… Boom!” He is now appearing in FX’s adaptation of Jon Krakauer’s true-crime novel of the same name from 2003.
Garfield stars as a Mormon investigator investigating the horrible murder of a mother (Daisy Edgar-Jones) and her infant daughter at the hands of fundamentalist members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
“I’m going to take a break,” Garfield, who garnered his second Academy Award nomination for “Tick, Tick,” tells me. I need to re-calibrate and evaluate what I want to do next and who I want to be, and for a while, just be a human. Because, as you know, that awards season is a washing machine.” Not that he’s complaining about the attention: “For a while, I need to be a little more ordinary.”
“Under the Banner of Heaven” is anything but light reading, with its mix of religion and murder. “I believe it was necessary for us to have game nights and go into nature and hike and, you know, swim and dive in lakes and dance and eat excellent food in order to truly come back and give our all to the work,” Garfield explains. “We needed to continue taking care of ourselves in order to take care of the story.”
Garfield’s journey into television is not his first. Dustin Lance Black wrote the series, which is directed by David Mackenzie. When he was 21 years old, one of his first jobs was on a British show called “Sugar Rush.”
“I remembered obtaining that first television assignment and knowing that I would be paid well enough for acting to cover my rent and have the occasional beautiful dinner a month,” he says. “I recall going out that night with my pals and just kind of celebrating. We headed to Turnmills, a club. It became a mess. I was overjoyed.
