Congress approves of veteran leader Kamal Nath’s resignation from the role of party’s head in Madhya Pradesh and MLA Dr. Govind Singh will succeed him
On Thursday, veteran congress leader Kamal Nath presented his resignation letter on the table. Later, Congress party affirmed that Kamal Nath has resigned from the post of congress head in Madhya Pradesh. Moreover, MLA Dr. Govind Singh is chosen as the next party leader in Madhya Pradesh.
Congress General Secretary, KC Venugopal officially said that congress has accepted Kamal Nath’s resignation from the post of leader of the Congress Legislature Party (CLP). Furthermore, the statement also confirmed the appointment of Dr. Govind Singh for the same.
Resignation of MLA Kamalnath ahead of assembly elections
It is worthy to note that Kamalnath’s resignation came ahead of the assembly elections in Madhya Pradesh. Madhya Pradesh is set to conduct its next assembly polls in year 2024. However, he will remain the unit chief of the state.
PTI sources confirm that Nath resigned from his post due to the party’s policy of ‘One Person, One Post’.
Previously, Kamal Nath became the Chief Minister of the state after congress won the elections in Madhya Pradesh in 2018 elections. He served as the Chief Minister for nearly 15 months. Later, due to the resignation of Jyotiraditya Scindia and his syndicates from congress, he was forced to resign from the post. Thus, BJP won the majority and Shivraj Singh Chauhan acceded to power.
However, in 2020 the party performed very badly in the by-election in Madhya Pradesh. This made the party question the capabilities of Kamal Nath and Digvijaya Singh. Later, Nath in a rally stated that he might soon consider retirement from politics. He said, “I am ready to stay at home and take some rest. I have no ambitions or greed for any of the post. I already have gained a lot.”
Govind Singh as the next appointed party chief in Madhya Pradesh
The new CLP leader comes from the Lahar constituency in Bhind district of Madhya Pradesh. He is a confidant of the former MP Chief Minister, Digvijaya Singh. His political constituency is a part of the Gwalior-Chambal region, which is the home of BJP Union leader, Jyotiraditya Scindia.
Dr. Singh told the reporters, “As the CLP leader, I have always raised people’s concerns in the Assembly and will continue to do so in the future. I’ll work as his [Kamal Nath] partner and challenge the BJP administration on public matters since he has shared his duties with me.”
