On Wednesday PM Modi met the leaders of 5 Nordic countries namely Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Finland, and Iceland in a high-level summit. The India-Nordic summit highlighted that the collaboration of the 5 countries leaders will together lead to global prosperity and sustainable development.
India-Nordic Summit
In a public statement made on Wednesday PM Modi conformed that the summit will go a long way in boosting ties within the region. These statements were made by the PM during the second India- Nordic summit held in Copenhagen which he attended during the second leg of his European tour.
The PM’s first tour day inhabited discussions with German chancellor Olaf Scholz. Modi also received a grand welcome from the members of the Indian community and participated in meetings with several vital businessmen.
DENMARK
PM Modi who is on a jam-packed tour to Europe had his first visit to Denmark on Tuesday during which he met Queen Margarethe 2 of Denmark. During his visit, he also encouraged the Indian community of the country to inspire their friends to visit India. While speaking to the members of the Indian Diaspora the PM also complimented the vast diversity of India which encompasses different languages and dishes, all of which are tied into a single culture. He also pointed out that the inclusion of technology in the system of governance shows the political view of the new India
While addressing the Danish capital, Copenhagen PM Modi talked about the popular social media term ‘ Fear Of Missing Out ‘ and stated that the countries which don’t invest in India will certainly miss out on vital business opportunities.
As per the details provided by the foreign ministry over 200 Danish companies are working towards the promotion of ‘Make in India’ and other governmental missions.
GERMANY
In a joint press conference with Mette Fredriksen; his German counterpart Modi acknowledged India’s relationship with the European Union and Ukraine. He also stated his hope for the negotiations on the India- EUU trade agreement to be concluded at the earliest. The discussions with the German Prime Minister and German chancellor covered key areas of bilateral cooperation and overall strategic partnership between the two countries.
PM Modi also took to Twitter to thank the German government for their warm hospitality which led to an extremely productive visit.
This is the Prime Minister’s first trip to Ukraine since the Russian invasion of Ukraine. “My visit to Europe comes at a time when the region faces many challenges and choices”, said the Prime Minister.
SWEDEN
In a wonderful meeting with the Swedish Prime Minister, Magdalena Andersson, the two counterparts discussed ways in which the bilateral ties between the two countries can be strengthened by adopting a Joint Action Plan. Boulevards through which collaboration and cooperation between the two countries in sectors like IT, research, and technology could be strengthened were also discussed. Potential bilateral collaborations in areas like climate technology, climate action, green hydrogen, civil aviation, space, defense, Arctic polar research, trade, mining, and economic ties were also conferred upon.
FINLAND
The Prime Minister’s meeting with the Prime Minister of Finland resulted in fruitful discussions on opportunities to expand mutual cooperation in the emerging fields of AI, future mobile technologies, clean technologies, smart grids, and quantum computing. He also extended invitations to several Finnish companies to invest in the Indian market.
At present India’s trade with Nordic countries is valued at USD 5 billion.
