Right now the biggest memes of all goes to Amber Heard being accused on social media for copying part of her testimony in her trial against her ex husband Johnny Depp from the 1999 film The Talented Mr Ripley. So, here’s a fact check into these accusations, claims and trails.
The multi-million dollar defamation trial between Johnny Depp and Amber Heard is currently an on going gossip in all over social media in which many taking stand with Johnny Depp claiming ‘men are victims too’. So about the case, Johnny has sued Amber Heard for $50 million asserting she implicated he abused her during the marriage, which led to him losing literally everything as many companies and franchises accused him being wrong as well. Amber has counter sued Johnny Depp for $100 million. In the trial, underway in Virginia, Amber gave her testimony this week and many sources on social media has started trolling her already some of which proves her testimonies wrong by pasting it with certain footage from her past interviews and so. This recent testimony is now claimed to be ‘copied’ from movies.
On Friday, May 6, Amber took the stand to give her testimony in the trial, detailing every aspects of her life with Johnny and how now and then he abused her for small small fights and topics. Several critics alleged that Amber Heard was ‘performing for the jury’ and putting on act. A few other social media users claimed that a part of Amber’s testimony where she accuses her ex husband Johnny Depp was ‘copied verbatim’ from a movie called The Talented Mr Ripley.
The text was indeed similar to a line from the 1999 film, starring Matt Damon, Jude Law, and Gwyneth Paltrow. One of the account from Twitter shared the comparison.
But another source while checking onto it says that the actor did not actually steal the lines from or quote The Talented Mr Ripley. In fact the aforementioned lines do not really feature in her testimony in an exact way. Although in parts of her testimony her language and tone is similar to the line being mentioned. But one particular line from the testimony in which Amber Heard says, “When I was around Johnny I felt like the most beautiful person in the world—then he would disappear”. This is similar to the line from the film but it isn’t a ‘verbatim copy’ as accused.
