Pandit Bhajan Sopori was an eminent personality and an Indian instrumentalist. He hailed from the beautiful state of Jammu and Kashmir and was accorded the Jammu and Kashmir lifetime achievement award. He was a well-known Santoor player and a Padma Shri Awardee. Pandit Bhajan Sopori Dies after a battle with Cancer
Santoor maestro died last night at an age of 74 after battling cancer. It was indeed a very heart-wrenching incident and a great loss for the music fraternity. Pandit Bhajan Ji was born in the year of 1948, in Jammu and Kashmir and he hailed from a family of musicians. His roots and generations all indulged in the “Sufiana Gharana”. He had nine generations playing Santoor and it was carried forward as a cultural tradition. He was diagnosed with colon cancer in the year of June 2021. Within a year of his diagnosis, he succumbed to death. His condition worsened about three weeks back and he was admitted to the Fortis hospital in Gurugram. He was admitted for an immunotherapy treatment that could heal the infection. His son Abhay said that the treatment did not work for him and breathed his last on June 3rd. Many eminent personalities and people from the music fraternity grieved over his loss. Many people took to Twitter to pen down their gratitude towards him. This year is an extreme loss for the music industry because many great singers and musicians have died including Lata Ji, Bappi Lahiri, Krishna Kumar Kunnath and now Pandit Bhajan Sopori Ji.

Santoor Maestro Pandit Bhajan Sopori was an all-time musician and a great human being. He received multiple awards throughout his career. He received the Padma Shree award in the year 2004, and the Sangeet Natak Academy award in the year of 1992. He had also increased his skills by learning western classical music from Washington University. He had also learned Hindustani Music from his father and grandfather.
