Cody Rhodes ended his rivalry with Seth Rollins on Sunday at WWE Hell in a Cell by defeating The Visionary in a Hell in a Cell match.
WWE confirmed Rhodes has a torn right pectoral muscle before the pay-per-view. He participated on Sunday with a horrific bruise on his arm and chest. He was unable to fully elevate his arm.
Despite the injuries, The American Nightmare defeated Rollins for the third time. He won the pin after striking his opponent with a sledgehammer twice and then executing his Cross Rhodes finisher twice.
The Feud History of Seth Rollins Vs Cody Rhodes:
The two men’s feud stretches back to WrestleMania 38 when Rhodes returned to WWE after a six-year absence as Rollins’ surprise opponent.
The American Nightmare won the match and started his claimed march toward becoming WWE champion. But Rollins refused to let it go and sought vengeance on his foe.
At WrestleMania Backlash, The Visionary said he would defeat Rhodes in the rematch. He thought that because he had adequate time to prepare for his opponent.
Instead, the former All Elite Wrestling star beat the former global champion once again. This time while clutching his trunks during a pinning combo in an attempt to retaliate for his opponent’s actions.
The way in which Rhodes won enraged The Visionary even more, leading to the development of their animosity, with both Superstars promising to settle matters inside Hell in a Cell.
Rollins, as he had done throughout their feud, did all he could to get into Rhodes’ mind, including staging a surprise assault on the May 23 edition of Raw.
Rollins interfered in a bout between Rhodes and The Miz, leading the match to be disqualified. He increased the ante by grabbing the weight belt his opponent had handed to a youngster at ringside and slamming it across the back of The American Nightmare.
The Visionary then emerged on Sunday’s pay-per-view wearing the same ring costume as his opponent’s father, Dusty Rhodes.
Rollins plainly wanted to save the feud by winning inside the cage. The onus was on Rhodes to complete the sweep.
He achieved just that, and he is now poised to continue moving toward world championship contention.
