French President Emmanuel Macron, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and Italian Prime Minister Mario Draghi came to Kyiv on Thursday. The three European leaders together are signalling for United Europe, as Russian attacks on Ukraine are going on.
European Leaders
The European leaders have arrived on a special training from Poland to Ukraine capital. The leaders had arrived separately and met on the train which was left Poland in starting hours of Thursday. After reaching Kyiv, Macron, Scholz, Draghi and Romanian President Klaus Iohannis, who joined the trio group later on today, visited Ukrainian suburbs Irpine where Russia attacked the township.
“In Irpine, Ukraine. We saw the devastated city and the marks of barbarism and the heroism too of the Ukrainians who stopped the Russian army which descended on Kyiv,” Emanuel Macron said in a tweet after the visiting devastated city.
“We will rebuild everything,” [the Russians] “destroyed kindergartens, playgrounds. Everything will be rebuilt,” Italian Prime Minister Mario Draghi told reporters after observing the condition in Irpine along with Macron, Scholz and Iohannis. Later then four European leaders meet with the Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky at Marinsky Palace.
The former Prime Minister and Deputy Chairman of the Special Security Council of the Russian Federation caustically criticized the visit and He writes that “European fans of frogs, liverwurst and spaghetti love visiting Kyiv. With zero use. Promised EU membership and old howitzers to Ukraine, lushed up on gorilka [Vodka] and went home by train, like 100 years ago. All is well. Yet, it won’t bring Ukraine closer to peace. The clock’s ticking.”
However, the European leaders visit is happening in the situation when Kyiv is pushing hard for joining European Union and other Eastern European countries like Moldova, are also trying to get the EU membership. French President Macron had also visited Moldova before his visit to Romania where he said on the membership issue that “my hope is that we can send a positive message to this request”, he further said that Moldova should not be dissected from Ukraine.
Emmanuel Macron visited the NATO base in Romania before reaching Ukraine, he said I think we are at a time when we, the European Union, need to send clear political signals to Ukraine and the Ukrainian people in a context where they have been combatting courageously for several months.
Therefore, in Ukraine, Emanuel Macron one more time reiterates his approach of European community and said that “this is a message of European unity addressed to Ukrainian men and women.”
