According to local traffic police, Tesla cars will be banned from entering the Chinese coastal district of Beidaihe for the annual summer party leadership conclave for at least two months which will be started on July 1st.
The decision to prohibit Tesla cars in Beidaihe comes just a few weeks ago when China’s Chengdu city also announced a ban on Tesla EVs that was done earlier this month. The official from the Beidaihe Traffic Police Brigade did not give a reason for the move but stated that it concerned a “national event” and also an announcement will be made regarding this soon. Although Tesla did not respond immediately to the request for comment.
The curb on Tesla EVs in Chengdu was not announced officially until some people posted videos and photos on social media where it was shown that the police were turning away the Tesla cars from some distinct areas.
Beidaihe, which is a beach resort east of Beijing popularly hosts a summer conclave of China’s senior leaders where there are various discussions on personnel moves and policy ideas. Last year too, the Chinese military banned Tesla cars from coming into its complexes commending security concerns over the cameras that were installed on the cars.
