Wrestling’s Forbidden Door has become such a popular concept that AEW and NJPW have titled a PPV after it. For the first time, the two promotions will formally collaborate to create a concert.
AEW wrestlers clashing with New Japan stars, titles on the line and possibly won by stars from other firms, and a night that will undoubtedly make an impression on the wrestling business as a whole.
In more ways than one, this is uncharted territory for AEW. The company generally permits three months or more between PPVs but has only given itself a month to build to Forbidden Door after Double or Nothing. The method for watching stays unchanged.
B/R Live is in the United States, while Fite is everywhere else. In addition, New Japan World in Japan. Forbidden Door will be torn apart on Sunday, June 26, 2022, at 8 p.m. EST.
Before the event, there will most likely be a free 30- to 60-minute Buy-In accessible on YouTube.
Miro vs. Malakai Black vs. Clark Connors vs. Pac for AEW All-Atlantic Championship
At Forbidden Door, AEW will crown a new champion. The very first All-Atlantic Champion. A title comparable to the WWE’s Intercontinental Championship. A tournament to decide who would be the inaugural All-Atlantic champion will climax on June 26 with a Fatal 4-Way match including three AEW performers and a fourth from NJPW.
Pac, Miro, and Malakai Black of AEW and Clark Connors of NJPW have qualified for the contest. Miro is the most probable contender to win. The guy is in desperate need of a huge win, and his run with the TNT Title proves that he performs better with gold around his waist.
Swerve in our Glory vs. El Desperado & Yoshinobu Kanemaru
Swerve Strickland and Keith Lee will face El Desperado and Yoshinobu Kanemaru on Sunday’s AEW X NJPW Forbidden Door pay-per-view.
The match was announced during Friday’s tapings of “AEW Rampage.”
In the weeks after Strickland eliminated Lee from the Casino Battle Royale during the “Dynamite” following the Double or Nothing pay-per-view, the two have attempted to cohabit as a team. Lee disregarded Strickland’s welcome in the entry area on this week’s “AEW Dark: Elevation” and focused on their bout against Davey Vega & Matt Fitchett. Strickland likened their feud to that of basketball giants Shaquille O’Neal and Kobe Bryant, who won three championships together with the Los Angeles Lakers despite not being the greatest of friends.
Zack Sabre Jr. vs. A Mystery Opponent
Forbidden Door was meant to serve as the arena for Zack Sabre Jr. and Bryan Danielson’s fight, which would have been an instant classic. Danielson is sadly wounded, but he has guaranteed supporters that his substitute would be a formidable opponent for Sabre Jr.
Who this replacement could be is still unknown, and will depend on who wins this match. Fans are expecting that Cesaro or Johnny Gargano will replace Cesaro. If it’s one of these two guys, and they remain around for the long haul, they’ll earn the victory.
FTR vs. United Empire vs. Roppongi Vice for the IWGP and ROH Tag Team Championships
AEW may currently have the finest tag division in wrestling. Nonetheless, NJPW has a few really solid teams as well. Add the ROH Tag Titles to the mix, and this encounter may be the clearest indication yet that the Forbidden Door is not only open but has been completely blown off its hinges.
To clarify, this bout will take place on a mostly AEW card, which will include a lot of AEW fighters, and the victors will get both the ROH and IWGP Tag Titles.
Best of all, it seems quite probable that FTR will win this match. Just another title to add to the Top Guys’ increasing collection. The genuine belt collectors in wrestling.
Chris Jericho, Sammy Guevara, and Minoru Suzuki vs. Shota Umino, Eddie Kingston, and Wheeler Yuta
AEW has a poor history of alienating casual fans by revealing angles and assuming that everyone is aware of what’s going on.
This match is comparable to that. Chris Jericho had members of Suzuki Gun, El Desperado, and Lance Archer, assault the two stars in the main event of this night. Then, it was announced that he will be joining the group’s leader Minoru Suzuki and Sammy Guevara at Forbidden Door.
Eddie Kingston, Wheeler Yuta, and Shota Umino, who some AEW fans may not be familiar with, will be their opponents.
Moxley’s second at the G1 Climax was Umino, therefore there is a link. Jericho and company will win this match, particularly now that he has rejoined Guevara.
Bullet Club vs. Dudes with Attitudes
It would not be an AEW x NJPW event without the Bullet Club on the program.
However, injuries almost prevented this match from taking place. No Kenny Omega or Redragon will be participating in the celebrations. Tony Khan has managed to pull together a match, and on paper, it seems to be a decent one.
Even with the Tag Titles, the fact that The Young Bucks are surrounded by guys who are injured and taking time off has rendered them somewhat inconsequential.
They will need a significant victory in this situation. Unfortunately, this will come at the price of Darby Allin, who could also use a huge victory right about now.
The Gunn Club and Max Caster vs. NJPW Dojo
The preshow is AEW’s last-ditch effort to get as many people as possible to purchase their PPVs. Or, as they are known inside AEW, Buy-Ins.
At Forbidden Door, The Gunn Club, Max Caster, and four members of the NJPW Dojo will be responsible for entertaining fans on free television and convincing them to pay for the main event.
When determining which bouts to include on its Buy-In events, AEW’s selections are a touch of hit or miss. This one is quite disappointing.
Gunn Club and Caster to win, simply because they are the most recognizable names to casual fans debating whether or not to pay.
