The three day long G7 summit 2022 currently is underway in Bavarian Alps, Munich in Germany. But the large number of protesters linked with fifteen different organizations gathered in Munich on Saturday
These demonstrations were held by activists who voice for better climate action, species protection and against hunger and poverty and they were also critical of globalization, including Attac and environmental campaigners WWF.
The demonstration was held for the demand for an energy transition from fossil fuel, protection of flora and fauna, social justice and action against hunger and poverty.
Munich police Spokesperson Andreas Franken said, only four thousand people gathered for the most important demonstration held before the G7 summit on Saturday, less than expected.
Bavarian police said that they were expecting more than twenty thousand protesters before the demonstration if the weather was good.
The light-gathering of people than expectation gave disappointment to protesters. Andrea, a Greenpeace activist said, “We are disappointed.”
Another protester from Greenpeace Kilian Wolter said I want a clear commitment from G7 that is the complete exit from fossils fuel by 2035 as we can stop financing war and conflicts.
However, Germany’s interior minister, Nancy Faeser said to protesters to refrain from any kind of violence. “I expect all demonstrators to protest peacefully, not to hurt anyone and not to destroy any cars or stores,” she said.
In the midst of the arrival of a high-level delegation of G7 countries and their head of state, the German authorities have deployed 18,000 police personnel around the summit area. Police have reported that some minor scuffles have taken place between police and protesters when police detained a protester.
Bavarian police spokeswoman Caroline Englert said police have not stopped anyone on the ground of suspicions that they will make trouble. However, the containers with a capacity of 150 people were ready to close to the summit venue for any mishappening.
This year Germany has G7 rotating presidency. Notably is that the summit is held in the midst of the Russia-Ukraine crisis, the Food and energy crisis and the strong possibility of a global recession. In the summit, India, Argentina, Indonesia, South Africa and Senegal are also participating other than G7 countries.
