NASA found a double crater on the moon’s surface. NASA stated that it is most certainly be created by rockets.
Highlights
- NASA found a double crater created by an unknown rocket.
- Space junk needs to be watched carefully.
- It is a mystery which Country’s or company’s rocket it was.
NASA when researching the impact site of a mystery rocket that created a double crater on the dark side of the moon.
The rocket impacted the moon around 4th March but only last week did Astronomers find the place of the impact and they found a double crater.
NASA stated that the rocket parts crashing on the moon is not very uncommon. The only thing that is not common is the double crater. Many aircraft and rockets have impacted the moon. Some created big craters but none created double craters.
NASA has still not found whose company’s or country’s rocket was that.
Mark Robinson, Professor in the School of Earth and Space Exploration at Arizona State University, said that the usual rocket that has been completely used has a mass concentrated around where the motor is.
Robinson said that the identification of the rocket is difficult but the double crater created by its impact might give some clue about it.
NASA has been tracking the trajectory of the rocket since January. At first, it was speculated that the rocket was a falcon 9 of the SpaceX but it was later ruled out. It was found that the trajectory doesn’t match the SpaceX Falcon 9‘s trajectory.
The second guess was China’s Long March 3C rocket but it was reported by the Chinese authority that the rocket entered the Earth’s atmosphere and burned to dust.
Bill Gary, the developer of Project Pluto astronomical software, disagrees with the Chinese authority by saying that they are confusing the different projects and rockets.
Gary also said that space agencies like the US space force or other international agencies should also keep track of the space junk in the high orbit and also don’t ignore the lower orbit.
