India’s initiative of Bharatnet Phase III, the biggest rural broadband project, is aiming towards providing internet connectivity to all the villages and small towns in India. This initiative will lead India to spread optical fibre all across India.
In the last few years, India has been investing domestically in the digital industry. An estimated Rs 5000 crore has been spent in the last 10 years domestically in this industry.
India is manufacturing optical fibre at a rate of around 1000 million fibre km and the domestic consumption is around 46 million fibre km.
The demand for optical fibre will increase in the coming years as network providers are converting toward optical fibre. Around 30% of mobile towers use optical fibre but it is said it will increase to 80% in a few years.
