“We support all diplomatic efforts to resolve the conflict, including negotiations between the Russian Federation and Ukraine,” the statement reads.
Pratik Mathur stated at the UN Security Council Arria-formula meeting, “It is in our collective interest to work constructively both inside and outside the United Nations to look for a reliable resolution to this conflict.”
Further discussing the conflict, he said, while he supports the role of dialogue and diplomacy, India has consistently called for a complete cessation of all hostilities since the beginning of the conflict in Ukraine.
We believe that no solution can be reached at the expense of innocent lives, especially as millions are forced to seek shelter in neighboring countries.
He discussed how cultural heritage serves as a historical record and understanding of the entire spirit of the people and civilization in terms of values, actions, works, institutions, monuments, and sites.
Speaking to the delegations at the UNSC on Friday, he continued, “To preserve our cultural heritage is to also defend our common values.”
His statement also included to the most recent news from Kiev, which recently suspended its envoy to New Delhi along with those from a number of other countries.
Civilians have been subjected to explosions and missile strikes since the beginning of the conflict between Russia and Ukraine. Their lives have particularly been affected in the eastern cities like Donetsk, Sloviansk, Makiivka, Oleksandrivka, Yasynuvata, and in the southern regions of the oblasts, in Odessa and Mykolaiv.
The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA)’s most recent humanitarian update states that while the majority of the ongoing hostilities are concentrated in eastern Ukraine, more missile attacks and casualties have apparently been reported in recent days in a number of other regions too.
These regions, where civilians and civilian infrastructure have been severely impacted, include eastern Kharkiv and western Khmelnytskyi oblasts.
External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar has previously stated that India has taken the “right course” in the Russian-Ukrainian conflict and that the most pressing concern is to restrain hostilities from escalating to the point where they can cause severe harm.
Dr. Jaishankar, India’s External Affairs Minister (EAM), stated that India will be “pleased” to assist in resolving the Ukrainian crisis.
Dr. Jaishankar stated in one of his Lok Sabha speeches that Russia is a “very important partner.” However, we are opposed to the conflict. He recognized the assistance provided by Russia, Ukraine, and even Indian nationals residing in Eastern Europe during Operation Ganga, which was designed to evacuate Indian students from Ukraine.
Diplomatically, India continues to press for an immediate peace settlement and an end to violence. We endorse negotiations between Ukraine and Russia, and even between their Presidents.
Our Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, has communicated with the leaders of both countries. He had precisely conveyed the same message to the Russian Foreign Minister, Sergey Lavrov, when he was in Delhi.
Dr. Jaishankar reiterated India’s pledge to provide aid to Ukraine: “If India can be of any support in this matter, we will be happy to contribute.”
We are working hard to stabilize trade relations between India and Russia since it is crucial to us. Dr. Jaishankar said, “Russia is an extremely crucial partner in a number of areas,” referring to Russia’s significant contribution to India’s defense sector.
Despite fierce competition from France, Israel, the United States, and other western countries, Russia has been India’s top weapons supplier.
