On Monday, the legendary ghazal singer Bhupinder Singh passed away due to cardiac arrest at a hospital in Mumbai.

“About eight or ten days ago, he was admitted to the hospital due to an infection in his urine. Upon examination, he was found to have COVID-19 in his system. He passed away at 7:45 p.m. due to what appeared to be colon cancer, and he had been diagnosed with the COVID-19 virus “According to Bhupinder Singh’s wife Mitali, who spoke to PTI.
Bhupinder Singh was born in Amritsar, Punjab. He started his musical career with AIR (All India Radio). During his tenure with Air India Radio, Madan Mohan, a music director, spotted him at a dinner hosted by AIR Delhi producer Satish Bhatia and was called to Bombay.
“Hoke Majboor Mujhe Usne Bulaya Hoga” was the song he sang in his first Bollywood film, “Haqeeqat,” directed by Chetan Anand in 1964, with Mohammed Rafi, Talat Mahmood, and Manna Dey.
In his career span of five decades, he collaborated with many other renowned musicians of the Bollywood industry, like Jagjit Singh, Lata Mangeshkar, Kishore Kumar, Shailendra Singh and many others.
Bhupinder married Bangladeshi singer Mitali Mukherjee in the mid-1980s and shifted his focus from playback singing to a career as a solo artist. Musician Mitali Mukherjee, who is also a singer. They performed ghazal and live performances as a duo together. The couple has a son together, whose name is Nihal Singh, who is also a musician.
