As the results of the impending presidential elections will be announced today, Draupadi Murmu’s village Rairangpur has started preparations to celebrate her victory.
The counting of the votes is going to be held today in New Delhi. India will get its fifteenth President after the full counting is over. If Draupadi Murmu wins, then she will become the first tribal woman to lead the country.
People in Odisha especially the Santhal community from which Ms. Murmu hails are very happy. She has been regarded as the “daughter of the state” because her election to the post will be a matter of immense pride for the state. She will be the first from the state to hold the office of the President.
Her ancestral village is all set to take out a victory procession after the results are announced officially. Roads and houses have been cleaned as well as decorated with flowers.Â
The people of her village are very enthusiastic and are already in a celebratory mood. The farmers have taken a day off although it is their busy transplantation season. Tribal dance is said to be performed in the streets by the tribesmen. People are busy making sweets to distribute among themselves after the official declaration of the results.Â

The voting for the elections began on 18th July 2022 when Member of Parliament and Member of State Legislative Assemblies cast their vote. National Democratic Alliance (NDA)Â had chosen Ms. Draupadi Murmu as their candidate while the opposition showed their support for Mr. Yashwant Sinha.Â
Murmu, if elected, will serve as the first tribal as well as the second lady President of India. The current incumbent President Ram Nath Kovind’s turn will end on 24th July 2022. The new President will be sworn in on July 25th, 2022.
