In regards to Partha Chatterjee’s arrest, Mamata Banerjee said that she doesn’t support any injustice, not directly mentioning any names, Mamata spoke during an award ceremony program of Banga Bhushan and Banga Vibhushan program at Nazrul Manch. She added that, however, mistakes can happen unintentionally.
The Enforcement Directorate had arrested Partha Chatterjee in the Staff Selection Commission corruption case. But so far Trinamool supremo Mamata Banerjee has not been vocal with her thoughts regarding this issue. However, on Monday, she said that she will not stand by any acts of injustice, refraining from mentioning any names directly. Mamata stated her views during the award ceremony program of Banga Bhushan and Banga Vibhushan program at Nazrul Manch and added that mistakes can happen unintentionally and if anyone is genuinely guilty, then he or she should be jailed for life.
After that, Mamata went on to attack Bharatiya Janata Party, claiming that BJP is throwing slander by flashing their money. She said she wants the truth to come out and isn’t in politics for the mere fun of it. She believes that politics should be generous. She asserted that all cases are different and she does not support any injustice, she does not support corruption. She especially asserted that she was given a parliamentary pension of Rs 1 lakh for 11 years but refused to take a penny.
She spoke of her sadness and the loss of hope over the behavior of several political parties. People often make mistakes, she added. Mamata further said that a verdict should be given based on the truth and within a given time frame. If someone has been involved in wrongful activities, then none are entitled to interfere regardless of how harsh a verdict they face. Just that, they shouldn’t be supported.
A verdict should be based on the truth and doled out within a certain time frame, Mamata Banerjee said. That if someone is found guilty, she doesn’t not mind if they are punished with life imprisonment. If someone has been involved in wrong activities, none of us will interfere no matter how harsh a verdict they face. We will not support them. I will not weaken my stance to threats, said Mamata Banerjee.
The West Bengal CM further asserted that she does not take money or salary even for her service and that there has been some mistake related to Arpita Mukherjee, Partha Chatterjee’s aide. She won’t spare anyone who makes a mistake even if it is my MPs, MLAs or ministers and if anyone is found guilty, he or she must be punished, but she strongly condemns malicious campaign against her, she stated, adding that the BJP was mistaken to think that it could break the Trinamool Congress party using central agencies.
The Communist Party of India’s central committee member Sujan Chakraborty has appealed to people to boycott the Banga Bhushan and Banga Bibhushan awards and has asked prominent people like Nobel laureate Abhijit Vinayak Banerjee and theater personality Devashankar Haldar to speak for the job seekers. He said that such a scandal has not happened before in favor of the ruling party. Trinamool state general secretary Kunal Ghosh followed up with his comments, stating that they were made with an ugly attitude and that CPM has never given due respect to the people of education, art and culture.
