Students undergo mental issues, anxiety, and hopelessness as the war continues. Their future seems bleak.
Medical students who returned from Ukraine amid the Russia-Ukraine War crisis went on a five days hunger strike on Saturday in Delhi urging Prime Minister Modi to give them admission to Indian Medical College. They asserted it to be a quick fix of all their worries.
The protest which is reckoned from 23rd July will proceed till 27th July. Protestors in this include- students who were brought to India from Ukraine as the country came under attack from Russian forces.
These students claimed that they are undergoing mental issues, anxiety and hopelessness as the war persists for more than five months now.
Reason for the Hunger Strike
Seeing the present scenario of Ukraine which gone two decades back as Russian forces have decimated everything now. No more students or teachers and even the buildings have been plundered. Hence, their future seems bleak.
This is the reason they have gathered to protest or held hunger strikes so that they can make their voices heard to the authorities. Authorities provide them with help by giving admissions in Indian Medical colleges.
Ailing students accompanied by agonised parents followed to support the students and their demands.
“I request the government to accommodate us in India. The government should help us. We have high hopes from Prime Minister Narendra Modi,” asserted Muhammad Akil Raza, a third-year medical student in Ukraine.
Students Appeals to PM : Quick-fix
The dispirited students claimed that the alternate solution to provide relief to them is accommodation in Indian Medical Colleges. If the government gives consent for their fit in the country’s colleges their future will be saved.
The protest which kick-started on July 23 at Ramlila gound will conclude on July 27.
Parents Concern
“These students left behind everything as they were transported out of Ukraine in the midst of war. We will not send them back. We request the government to help them get admitted to a medical college,” said a parent.
This is not the first time students are protesting. Last month too, these students sat near Jantar Mantar, in Delhi requesting the government the same demands.
The dissent also prolonged this month when the Parents Association of Ukraine MBBS Students (PAUMS), in a statement, said that their multiple protests are being futile as there is no response from the concerned authorities. Also claimed that they even wrote a letter to the Prime Minister Office. However, no success was accomplished in their venture.
“We protested at Jantar Mantar thrice and twice at the National Medical Commission (NMC) office in Dwarka. Also submitted our demand-cum-request letter to PMO, health ministry, education ministry, NMC and President of India. But no assurance till date. Students have now resolved to sit on hunger strike,” the statement added.
Earlier in March and April too, the Parents of these students led a protest asking for aid from the government to “Save the Future” of these MBBS students.
The Ultimate Solution
The demonstrators i.e. Student protestors are claiming that they have come with elucidation to solve our crisis.
They affirmed that there are 12,000 medical students (leaving final years) who need to be accommodated and the total number of medical institutions in the country is 600.
Hence, if each of these medical institutions takes around 20 students all the students can be accommodated.
Mission Ganga
There were 18,000 students struck in Ukraine when the war commenced, in February. After which, Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched Mission Ganga to take out all the Indian students studying in Ukraine.
Presently, Russian forces have captured and demolished everything in Ukraine. Hence, it’s totally impossible now for Ukraine to come back in normal circumstances as the war still continues and seems nowhere to come to a stop.
