China-Taiwan News: On Tuesday, Taiwan’s military forces began live-fire artillery drills in southern Pingtung. This came in response to China’s ongoing military exercises near Taiwan waters. However, Taiwan’s Eight Army Corps spokesperson said, “these are previously scheduled drills and do not come in response to the Chinese drills.” Taiwan’s foreign minister, Joseph Wu, said that the Chinese drills are an excuse to launch a military invasion. China says the navy and air force would continue joint drills in the waters and airspace around Taiwan following four days of unusual live-fire exercises. In addition, Taiwan’s Foreign Minister Joseph Lu stated that China’s focus is to control the East and South China Seas via Taiwan’s Strait.
