In a Bollywood-style raid, the Maharashtra Income Tax department seized assets worth 390 Cr. The officers arrived in Jalna as Baraati (groomsmen) saying ‘Dulhan Hum le Jayenge‘.
The Innovative Income Tax raid
The officials of the Income Tax department of Maharashtra recently raided the factories of Jalna and Aurangabad in Bollywood style. The officers acquired the attire of groomsmen with wedding stickers attached to their cars to execute the raid. The officials raided different places simultaneously with different groups of teams.
The raid started on August 1st and lasted for the whole 8 days. In the raid, they seized assets worth more than 390 Cr, so much so that the cash counting lasted for 16 hours. The asset contained 58 Cr in cash, 32 kg of gold ornaments, and 16 crores worth of diamonds. Along with this, the raid acquired property documents worth 300 crores.
The officers were a mixture of Pune, Thane, Mumbai, and Nashik. The fleet contained a total of 260 officials with 120 cars. The vehicles were left separately to avoid any suspicion. They had stickers of ‘Dulhan hum le Jayenge’ on their cars to make their disguise more believable. Some of the cars even had stickers of brides and grooms for the same.
Scams in Jalna and Aurangabad
Jalna and Aurangabad districts of Maharashtra are famous for steel production. However, the factories were suspected of indulging in the illegal industry of steel. Apart from Jalna, they raided two businessmen’s houses in Aurangabad.
The Income Tax Department raided mills, homes, factories, farmhouses, warehouses, premises, and offices. Seizing Loads of cash the officials also found gold ornaments, gold biscuits, gold bricks, gold coins, diamonds, and properties worth crores.
Perhaps the raid turned out more successful just because of the colourful way it was executed. Even, the officials must have had fun like the readers did!
