Being in your twenties isn’t always easy peasy lemon squeezy. Typically, this stage of life is associated with exciting adulthood adventures and the “You only live once” philosophy.
Everyone wants to look like a perfect version of themselves in their twenties, as depicted in movies and Netflix shows. But the reality is a lot different than the reel expectations.
People in their early twenties are just starting in the real world, and they are going through some significant changes in their lives, and these changes may not be as smooth and sophisticated as they would like.
Transitions for this group of young adults include getting their first job, living alone, and setting up their first home, naming a few. The most significant change for them is leaving their academic life and entering the professional world, which causes drastic changes in their social life as well, as they lose a lot of friends who once swore to stay together forever.
This, however, is normal. Everyone goes through many changes in their twenties, and that is how it is supposed to be. And I say this with no pressure, but our twenties prepare us for our life ahead, so there is one thing that should not be comprised at all. And that one thing is YOUR HEALTH!
The twenties are the peak of our lives. We are old enough to make out own decisions and young enough to experiment with different forms of lifestyle. And so, it is vital to create a healthy routine for ourselves, because let’s face it, being in your twenties in the 21st century that too in times of pandemic is stressful.
It might look like we are just sitting in front of our computer screens, but it is much more complicated and stressful than how it seems, so taking care of your health is a must. And so here are some of the essential lifestyle changes that we should try to inculcate in our lives to be young, healthy adults.
1. Take care of your fitness
We are a paradoxical generation, where some of us like to go gym regularly while for the rest of us, it is just an over-ambitious goal which we want to achieve but can’t because well, let’s face it, it is a task.
And so being it is crucial that we find an alternative. And that alternative can be anything ranging from your favourite sport to riding your bicycle to dancing to your favourite song because in the end, the ultimate goal is just to feel fit, and that can be achieved in any way you find fun.
2. Form healthy habits
The habits that we form in our twenties are the habits that sustain us for a lifetime, and so we must create healthy habits. And the first and the most important of these habits developing a proper sleep schedule.
Despite this being the ultimate age of partying and late-night overtimes, it is vital to create a well-balanced sleep schedule because otherwise takes a massive toll on our body in the long run.
3. Take care of your heart
Lately, the rate of cardiac arrest in younger people has been increasing. And so it is essential to take proper care. We need to condemn the use of any form of substance, whether alcohol, cigarettes, or drugs.
We also need to adapt to a healthy diet or, as our moms used to say-” Ghar ka khana is the best khana” (Home-cooked food is the best food). We must also limit our screen time. It is important to stretch and relax our bodies by taking small breaks from our work schedule.
4. Give your eyes a break
One must follow the 20-20-20 rule, where for every 20 minutes of screen time, we look 20 feet away for 20 seconds. This will reduce the strain on our eyes as that is one of the most common yet quite severe problems as we are over-dependent on technology.
Now, when you read it, it might seem like a lot of work. But all of these habits are like planting a seed. They may take some time to develop, but once formed, they will undoubtedly aid in the creation of a better and healthier lifestyle.
